Buzz Rickson A-2

Superfluous

NOT MY JACKET, although I am considering it.

Self Edge is offering a new, special edition (SE only) Buzz Rickson A-2 made out of Italian HH. It is from Buzz's William Gibson line and, therefore, longer and slimmer fitting -- I like that (my BR N-1 is a William Gibson and it fits me perfectly). BR's A-2 is clearly not an accurate repro of a specific contract. That does not bother me one lick, as I do not care about historical accuracy. Removing the price from the equation, what do you think of this A-2?

I like it. The contrast stitching and two concealed two tone facings are a nice touch. It takes the A-2 somewhere else without turning into an out and out fashion item. I'm guessing the price will make me weep, though.

I like the two-tone facings and contrast stitching as well, but the length is just...too long for me. I realize it isn't supposed to be an exact repro, but in my eyes, it will always look like a (too) long A-2.

I think it is absolutely beautiful. To echo Sloan, just enough change to make it unique without it being over the top. I'd wear that in a heart beat.

I'm with you guys about the two-toned facings and the stitching, but the last time I saw this character I stumbled away with a bad case of financial vertigo.

I too like the contrast stitching and two tone leather. I like the slimmer fit also, and wouldn't mind some more contrast on the knits.

I like it. But I'm not sure how gratifying the two tone panels are being located in places you don't really see!

I'm definitely a fan of BR's William Gibson line. I previously owned one of the long MA1s, and it was a constant source of compliments. But too damn tight in the pits to work for me.... Anyway, I digress.

The OP is a lovely jacket and I think when worn doesn't look I'll proportioned. Though lying flat it looks flat out awkward IMO.

If I were you, and I'm not :)D ), I'd go for BK's new slim RW pattern but request in crazy dark seal hide and knits. Or do one better, and request OD knits and an OD tape zipper. Now that would be cool- plus you'd probably have enough scratch to buy 2 of em

I think it will break in nicely after a few months and drape better. Awesome looking leather. High standing collar and long beard not so sure.

It's interesting enough, why not?
But, and it's a big but, the price will be stupidly high. For me, that's the killer. I am prepared to pay high prices for high quality repros, but over the odds for a 'modern' 'interpretation'? No thanks- it will never be a classic IMHO.

But, if you like it, that's fine, although I would repeat what I've said before;
The Japanese ¥ is going down. With the exception of short periods of profit-taking against the $, the value of the ¥ will not reverse it's downward trend due to expressed Japanese government policy to devalue the ¥.
Putting off a BR purchase makes it cheaper if you live outside of Japan.
In September next year, the Japanese Postal Savings (effectively holding the worlds biggest savings) will start investing in the Japanese stock market. That will bump up the Nikkei, and spur further movement from ¥ to stocks, devaluing the ¥ even further (estimates now see 130-150¥ to the $)

So, I would really consider the savings you could make 10 months down the line.

It's one of those A-2s with the Zilly collar thing going on. (Catch That Pigeon, Hanna Barbera) Great colour/tone combo though.

His huge George Bernard Shoreditch beard is a major obstruction too.

But the splayed untameable collar is something I've noticed with various A-2 patterns. Not a style I like. For me, a major unstylish flaw in this jacket type.
