Buzz Aldrin Strikes Back!

With the passing of Neil Armstrong, I've seen some postings elsewhere denying the Moon landings. It was all a hoax. And while I've read the ravings of these conspiracy theorists, I came across this satisfying clip.

There's another clip there with a news guy interviewing the Mythbusters. As part of the interview that clip of Buzz Aldrin is shown. The news anchor said that the guy sued Aldrin but the judge threw it out; said the guy had it coming. :eusa_clap

Wow! Hey if I were Buzz Aldrin, I might have socked him too (or at least been really tempted to).

I might be ranting when I say this (so here's my two cents), what in the heck is the point of denying the lunar landings to begin with? What does this accomplish? Are people really that pathetic? I feel that so many of these deniers are a bunch of really bored people that have nothing better to do with their lives. Anytime I hear someone say that the lunar landing is a hoax really makes my blood boil. Is it cool to deny the lunar landings?

If the lunar landings were a hoax, why go through all that trouble? Can you imagine how ridiculously expensive it would have been to pull off such an elaborate hoax. Plus, if those men didn't go to space, where in the heck did people think they went? What did they think they did up there if they didn't walk on the moon? Play cards?

The lunar landing was such an incredibly brave thing to do during this time. There were so many risks involved. I can only imagine how exciting it must have been to have that journey.

I've seen Buzz Aldrin. I would have loved to have talked to him about his journey. The closest I have ever got to him was actually walking right past him. lol lol lol Sadly at the time, I didn't realize it was him until it was too late. He had his back faced towards me and I was passing by to get into a building. I've always kicked myself for not being able to speak with him and shake his hand.

I spent a summer (1996) being a tour guide on a sightseeing boat in New York harbor. MUCH fun. They had one cruise on a day I wasn't working where they went up the Hudson River with the reunioning West Point class of 1950. The girl who had that day's gig barely realized who Aldrin was. Ohhh, how I would have liked to be on that boat!!! Aldrin has always been one the the very coolest of all the Astronauts.

Well, I'm going to say it - If this was anyone other that a federal bureaucrat like 'Buzz' Aldrin, he would have been arrested immediately, prosecuted and sentenced for assault - just as you or I would have. For a judge to throw this out is, in actuality, a miscarriage of justice. The rule of law applies to each of us equally, as does the right of free speech. I'm rather ashamed at the applause and the approval for this kind of behavior from someone who has lived his entire life on the taxpayer's dime. His federal associations do not make him immune to justice. He's rich enough to hire a lawyer and pursue a defamation case or a restraining order if necessary, but to resort to assault just because of one's federal "celebrity" is unconscionable and I've felt that way since the incident ten years ago. If this wasn't a federally celebrated astronaut, I know most of you would agree with me 100%.

I think a situation like this would be tough for most of us to face and one would, in short order have to make a decision on how it should be dealt with. I thought the one that was being assaulted here was poor Aldrin :eeek: This retard is bigger than him, younger than him, he flies in his face without being provoked. He shows no respect for an elder man which is disgusting, and he stars to calling him coward, liar and a thief.

I don't have anything against violence when it is for a fair reason; self-defense, protecting your family or getting rid of a bully like this one. [huh]

Our current AG of the USA should also be prosecuted, but because of his position, he won't be. Happens every day, and in this case, hooray. An arrest is never immediate. and the assualt was not done by Aldrin, that was battery.
Any assault (if the determination that Aldrin was threatened by the harassment) would be from the fellow who was getting into Aldrins face.


He may be detained for a shot investigation then arrested if it is determined that he attack was not justified.
After the arrest there would be a preliminary hearing or grand jury investigation to determine if the charges could be tried.
If the charges are able to be tried there would be a trial during which it would be determined if the attack was unlawful.
Sentencing could be much later because in the case of a provoked attack the appeals can take quite a while.

The legal system allows many people to go free from all backgrounds. Right or wrong, that is the protection to reduce the number of people that go to jail for crimes they didn't commit.

While I do think this is a little more extreme than my view, I do think that it is inappropriate if the same judge would have not dismissed the case if he wasn't a celebrity. Unfortunately the only way to know this is to see the judge's other rulings, which I don't think we know.

The jerk was asking to be punched- to land himself on the news- and Aldrin accommodated and made this jerk famous. We are certainly all still talking about the jerk, and I am sure that makes him really happy. I don't blame Aldrin for punching him (when you get cornered, things get out of control) and he was being bullied.

Even if violence is justified doesn't mean it should be celebrated. Violence is always (at best) a necessary evil.

I'm a law & order kinda guy. I am also an old west kinda guy. You jab a hornet's nest, you get stung. When you're a chicken-**** picking on an old man and you're a foot taller than him, you're a bully and a threat. Buzz was in defensive mode. Put me on his jury - and if it happened to any old man, famous or not, I'd feel the same.@ aerojoe: My old man can indeed take care of himself. He began life in a pretty harsh mining community in Montana. Then, on to the USAF. He's smaller than me, but tough as nails. But again, some punk does this to Pop - I'm the one that's gonna do the dirty work. My philosophy is to never start a fight, but I'll finish one if need be. Or go down trying...
