Was looking at something else and happened upon these. They appear to be extremely functional and above average. Real deal stuff.

I bought one of these 5-6 years ago, and they are exactly what you say. They're made from an extremely durable cotton twill and have a loose fit. Plenty of room to wear a sweater underneath. Assuming they've made no changes to the design since then, mine has button side take up tabs and the back has "action" style pleats and 8 1/2" double vents.

My only quibbles are the sleeve roll up tabs, the hand warmer pockets built into the lower front bellows pockets and the small embroidered BOYT logos on the back yoke and lower left pocket flap. Otherwise, it's a great design.

I've been on the hunt for a nice W & G Hemingway jacket for a while now. I know there's the Kilimanjaro from LW Inc, but a friend of mine has that one and he tells me it's lesser quality for the price than an original W & G.

I had the privilege of spending last weekend with friend and fellow wildlife biologist, Jim Fowler. Many of you might remember him from Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom" television series. Jim is sporting an original Willis & Geiger bush jacket in olive. I am wearing a WPG belted bush jacket in khaki. Ready for the next adventure!

I have to second Renault's comment, how I love that show. I can still hear Marlon Perkins' voice, "And now Jim will wrestle the giant ape to the ground barehanded..."

Hi

You didn't finish it. "And now Jim will wrestle the giant ape to the ground barehanded while I wait upstream." Marlon wasn't EVER close that damn ape.

For hunting in hotter, dry weather, my favorite is the M42 US paratrooper jacket, Confortable, nice fit and helps keep thorns and briars away. Even my wife considers it a stylish bush jacket.

Hi folks I've recently purchased this bush jacket/safari jacket. I believe it's from the 1930s and British made but it doesn't have any labels. Any thoughts anyone??

I recently bought this W&G on Ebay:

It was described as a ' bush jacket' but I'm sure that there's a better descriptive out there somewhere?

I must show off my latest acquisition...
From Nairobi's Ahamed Brothers' store, the safari-outfitter to stars such as Clark Gable and Grace Kelly, a ladies bush/safari jacket (likely 1950s/60s) complete with removable leather buckle on the belt. I encountered some confusion researching the store because it seems it was often misspelled "Ahmed". However, I found some fascinating references, including a mention here, and a nice article in the January 1963 issue of Guns Magazine. (Guns Magazine link downloads a pdf file.)
Ahamed Brothers actually provided tents to both Jane Goodall and Louis Leakey. And apparently, they are also generally credited with the iconic design of the safari suit.
(I am assuming this is a ladies jacket due to the darts/shaping... could I be wrong about that? Measurements are 42" chest, 36" at waist, and then it flares out to 44" at hem.)
Editing to add: It buttons right-over-left so I suppose it IS a ladies jacket.
