Thank you Preacher Man, Mike has made me many hats. All of them fine works of the hatters trade.
Mike has become a good friend.
And to be able to wear such a great piece of work, made by a close friend really means alot at this special time.

Rusty, I'm sure you're right about it all!! I've not had Mike build me a hat yet, but you sure are a positive inspiration to become one of his customers!! You're the inspiration, your Buckaroo hats are the temptation!! :) I'm just going to give in to it and and call him!!!

Thank you so much!
Its great to hear from you, holler if you ever make it over again.

I hope to. As you may recall, I have moved to northern Virginia and work in that wretched city know as our nation's capitol. I am ensconsed in occupied territory on but the very edge of southern lands. I do indeed stand out here with my hats, especially the westerns and am often recalled by those who don't know me well as, isnt he the guy who wears cowboy boots.

Hi

The last time I was in Covington, late in 2012, I asked Mike to save back a large Silver Mist felt body to make into a John Wayne Cavalry hat. Between my work and the boiler this Spring, I was finally able to get back to Tennessee to get the crown fitted correctly. I was concerned about looking like I was under a mushroom because of the amount of felt it takes to bend into a nice diamond shape so Mike left the hat partially finished. Mike and Rocky had the hat's brim broken for a seven inch crown, and it was blocked on an extended 7 3/8 long oval block. The hat body was sanded ahead of time. The Sweatband was also sewn in ahead of time. My goal was to get the crown height set and then have Mike finish the hat and send it to me.

Rocky put a quick Diamond Crease in the top to check the crown height. As it turns out, I didn't have to worry about this, we could have just curled a little more felt in the crease.

Rocky is checking how well the crease and everything is centered.

I'd like to thank Mike and Rocky for working with me to get the hat right. I really gotta quit going by there. Rocky was shaping a more Modern Steel colored hat with a 6 inch crown and 5 inch brim, and uhhhh, now I have one just like it in black on order. The Shrimp and White Cheddar Cheese Grits at Marlo's kind of topped off the day too.

I should dedicate this hat to Sam Craig who put me onto the idea a few months before he passed away in his John Wayne's Akubra thread.

Later Y'all

Nice looking hat MJS. I got shut-out by that boiler malfunction also, and am not expecting to be able to get back to Covington until Winter / Spring. I was depressed about it, but now maybe there is a silver lining. I'm thinking Mike's ribbon haul will provide me with options on my next hat (and two projects still sitting on hold) that were not available before. So, I look forward to perusing the ribbon inventory. I hope he got some gold shades in 16, 19, 22 ligne. Doesn't matter, an expanded inventory leads to expanded ideas.
