LW's lighter hide has a LOT of character.

True- I had a 3oz black HH J100 and the leather was outstanding- lots of grain. I would even say for me the lighter hide was better looking close up.

Bowen, you are too kind—your LW has a cushy life. Its intended lot in life is punishment. [emoji3517]

Lol.
Thought about running over it a few times with the Hummer except for the buttons.
It does have a nice tread pattern though???

Current photo. Very much an old friend. I just haven't worn the jacket much since about 2005 after I got a real job and stopped wandering around. The thing has literally been around the world. I wear it occassonally, mostly when motorcycle riding.

Here’s a Ryder half belt in a pretty thick black goatskin. I’ve had it about 6 years and, at least before Covid, was putting several hours a day in the jacket about 100 days a year. It fits like a baseball glove and is broken in well, but yes of course it looks nothing like cxl after a similar amount wear.

I think they break in with patience. They just don’t do the patina dance to well.

That would be the thing, Which works for me (though I don't have a black LW leather, only my LW B3). I like the look of a black leather jacket; and I prefer it to stay black. When I want brown, I buy brown.

As ever, of course, much depends whether you're a vintage leather guy that wants your leather jacket to look like the cool, seventy and eighty year old jackets many of us can't find affordably in our sizes do now, or whether you're one of those of us who want to dress like it's 1956, and we're wearing a jacket be bought new in the late forties.

Leather is tougher than zipper
:-D

Clearly the zipper is not manly enough for the leather!

That’s beautiful goat… Much nicer than the stiff pebbled type of goat we usually see pics of … IMO .
