Faux pas fashion plate...in 1912

A discussion of formal lids on the Ask Andy forum included this 1912 illustration of a young blade in black tie and bowler...something "traditionally" just not done! (Look at the subtle snook cocked at him by Mr. Full Dress Suit.)

Any other precedent in times gone by - correct or not? Movies, perhaps? What sort of associations would it have called forth?

Incidentally, how incorrect was the choker collar with a semiformal at night?

Put a crease down the center of the bowler and he is just fine.:whoo::p
