I have a Film that I purchased about five years ago from JJ Hatters. Great hat and one of my favorites. Would anyone know the felt blend or dominant felt? It is so very soft yet holds its shape well. Thanks to all.

Thanks for the info; I thought The Film was a blend of rabbit and beaver. I never knew that all Borsalinos were generally rabbit. All the best.

I am new to the forums, so thank you in advance if you have any information to share about a hat that i ran across in a vintage shop in Amery Wisconsin.
I have done some basic research on this Borsalino hat and have an understanding that the Maurice Rothchild stamp on the inside of the hat refers to a department store in Chicago Illinois that closed in 1955. I am wondering if this hat is very old or do they continue to stamp hats with department stores to refer to a particular time in history ?

I am very happy with the hat, it is in great shape and i got it for 65 bucks.
Which i thought was a good price?

Welcome to FL. Your hat is old. I would suggest to post it in the thread "Borsalino Brotherhood" and the experts here will give you the info you want. Also pics of other stamps, as well as of the paper label behind the sweatband will help.

That is a very nice vintage Borsalino hat Sir. It has several very interesting appointments that would be of interest to see in more detail. The gilled ribbon and especially the multi stitched brim edge. Fantastic color and contrast. Please do repost in the Borsalino thread. The tags will tell the tale.
You did extremely well for that price and i think you will find you have a diamond of a hat.

I have an absolutely soft, lovely Borsalino I purchased in Rome a few years back. I suppose it's open crown, it's like butter. I'm afraid I don't know the model, doesn't say on the inside.

Delmonico's is having a good sale, and I have my eye on a light gray Como (wish I could find silverbelly, but alas, not available in any style Borsalino in a 57). I'm wondering how structured the Como model is. (Is it as stiff as a Stetson would be, or do Borsalinos in general tend to the soft end of the spectrum?) I only have this one Borsalino to compare to. In the past I've favored a Lock Trilby, and they tend to be soft, and close to this Borsalino I own. Lately I've purchased Stetsons because I thought I'd try that brand after years of wearing Lock. I've been happy with them in general, but I'm hoping for a "softer" hat, if that makes any sense.

What do we think of these Como's that Delmonico stocks? I ask specifically because I've heard so much conflicting chatter on Borsalino modern hats since bankruptcy. I know Delmonico would NOT sell a lemon, but I'm wondering if any of you have experience with this hat purchased in the last year or two--i.e., not a vintage, but recently sold.

Any advice you can give me will be appreciated.

I’ve had a Como or two pass through my hands, but I don’t currently have one. They were softer than the current non-Excellent Stetsons. My complaint against the modern Borsalino is they charge way too much just for the Borsa label. Way overpriced for the quality of the hats. I looked at modern one in a hat shop in Seattle a few years back and liked the felt but was appalled by the shoddy workmanship on some of the hats. I echo Deadly's comments...in your size with a bit of search and patience can come up with a great vintage Borsa at much less than the current retail. Check out MiamiBruno on Ebay. He has a large selection of vintage, many Borsalinos, at very fair prices. He is a quality seller.

I believe the hat in your photo is likely the Borsalino “Icaro”.
