Hi, I'm filming a movie, and I'm looking for a hat like the one that Sentenza (Angel-Eyes, or "The Bad") wore in "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

I've read that it's a bolero, and I've found replicas of it listed on eBay for way more money than I can afford... Besides those, though, I can only find cheap plastic ones from Zorro costumes. It doesn't help that boleros are apparently also a type of jacket.

So, does anyone know if there are any other names for this type of hat? Or can you name a place where I can buy one at a reasonable price? If all else fails, can anyone point me to similar types of hats? I'd really like one with a wide, flat brim like these, and a similar featureless top if possible.

I really like that style hat that Lee Van Cleef wore in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, For a Few Dollars More, Sabata, and The Return of Sabata.

I know this isn't necessarily screen-accurate to the one Lee Van Cleef wore in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (moreso Henry Fonda's "Frank" character in Once Upon a Time in the West), but this is a similar hat, with supposedly a higher crown than Van Cleef's.

(the actual film wasn't black and white, just for the record)

Sometimes, I actually think about whether or not I should be getting this hat one day, as I'm a huge fan of Once Upon a Time in the West. I don't know where I'd consider wearing it though, it'd take a lot of nerve, granted, but I'd fancy wearing it while riding if I bought a horse, if I went to see a rodeo, and while in the countryside. Not a versatile hat by any means, although if you could pull it off, it'd be great. I'd imagine some girls or women fancying it (at least on someone) as well.

An Akubra Campdraft would fit the bill too, although you'd have to change out the ribbon for a wider one. Everything Australian doesn't have them in black, but others do, such as Australia Direct.

Texas Hatters

Texas Hatters near Austin used to sell a hat just like what you are looking for. A UT service fraternity called the Texas Cowboys would get them with the flat top and flat brim upon attaining membership, and when you were initiated you could have yours shaped like a regular cowboy hat. The flat "bolero" hat was a symbol of still being an initiate. Ask them for the Texas Cowboys "new man" model, they may still provide them for the club. We always referred to them as "skillets," or "cakeboxes." Frank
