Blowdryer + conditioner on Lost Worlds leather (before, during, after)

It's hard not too put it to good use when the jacket is patterned so well, movement is not limited at all which makes it very comfortable to wear even when it's layered with wool. Here's a better quality picture:

I guess it's a good thing if you where planning on being a one jacket guy.

Haha, or just buy more Lost Worlds I'd like a lighter jacket in the future, maybe something veg tanned. Love the look of ELMC and japanese makers, but I don't think I'm cut out for those patterns (pun inteded) not by a mile (I need a relatively long size and broad shoulders). I know we have similar builds and taste, what direction would you point me in while looking for a second jacket? Do you have a personal favorite lighter jacket in your collection?

Good point, it is a great place to start, you avoid all the intermediate steps and go straight for the top!

You should give ELMC a go, i am 188cm and 80kg and the Californian and Windward fit me really well.
Langlitz is also one of my favourite, a Columbia is a really nice jacket if you want a comfortable understated cross zip.

You might want to look at Lewis Leather in their black veg tan cowhide

... Or Thedi

Nice! Which leather is this on the Thedi? It looks to be a darker brown than the "Cognac Buffalo" in which we usually see this model [MTC-127915]

It is that same cognac buffalo, at the time I simply called it tan. It has been under a lot of sun, mainly the motorbike

Edit: in the second picture it looks a bit darker than it is because of lighting, the first one is closer to what it looks like at hand.

Yeah, ditto for my jacket, too. I tried to condition my LW vest, didn't soak in a single molecule of the stuff even when I used a blow-dryer and eventually, after I waited for a week, I had to wipe the vest down to at least make it wearable again. Well, it did lose some of the smell (had a bit of a musty odor) but otherwise... Dunno, discouraged me from using a conditioner on a LW again.

This is true for the older LW's HH (I have LW's jackets that are more than 20 years old). LW used to put a kind of heavy coating on the HH that gave the leather a plastic-like appearance that prevented it from absorbing any product. This is not the case with LW's newest HH, which have more character and grain, and above all, less to none of this thick coating. In any case, I do not recommend using any conditioner on LW's HH for many years, and then avoid anything that is petroleum based.

This is not the case with LW's newest HH, which have more character and grain, and above all, less to none of this thick coating. In any case, I do not recommend using any conditioner on LW's HH for many years, and then avoid anything that is petroleum based.

The coating hasn't changed in composition, only in thickness.
Old and new LW hides are both resin coated leather and neither will really absorbe anything.

I've heard different things about the use of petrol and leather. I have used it on cracked leather. In my opinion, it's done just fine. People will tell you that it can destroy the bonding fibers in the leather itself (which may be true) but I have not seen that. The only thing that will absolutely do that is dry rot. Dry rot will actually separate the fibers and turn leather into paper.

I've used Vaseline to soften the armpit and shoulder seams on my J24. About a year ago. The jacket is still alive and well. I don't think a little lube can do any harm to the LW jacket.

The leather didn't take any Vaseline in. I basically rubbed it in the seams and waited and wiped it off. If anything I've only managed to push some lube into the leather layers so it lubed things up that way. I doubt the Vaseline penetrated the coated leather at all.

The best part about the LW leather is that it shows grain but is also stuffed with waterproofing. Every other waterproofed leather I've got don't really show any grain at all. And that's the premium difference. Still trying to figure out where he got his leather from.

Stu is a part owner/investor in a tannery, so he has a lot of say in specifying the leather parameters, including the topcoat. Some 1960s hides have similar topcoats, I tried to get Obenaufs through them and it was very difficult. Very little got through. Probably some urethane coating, maybe acrylic.
