Blowdryer + conditioner on Lost Worlds leather (before, during, after)

the content seems like all concoction of different waxes I hope it doesn't flake off when you crease the leather or wear it during colder months, from reading the usage seems like it is meant for thicker leather that is not so much creased during wearing (boots, saddle, belt, headgear). if it does flake then you probably need to clean it with lighter fluid.

just my feeling if the leather is/ was a finished leather with top coat then it is better to recoat it with leather finisher some can be applied as you would condition a leather with cloth too, and if the leather is naked or waxy then probably adding wax to maintain it makes more benefit.

So far so good, actually I wore the jacket in heavy rainfall and hit it with some steam (borrowed my girlfriends steamer haha) and wore it a lot. After the steam the jacket felt a tad bit dry so I hit it with another application of conditioner.

I won't do any other things with it but wear it for the coming year at least, the leather is feeling really supple and healthy atm. not oily to the touch but nourished and softened up.

I read about Lost Worlds jackets not absorbing anything, well, this one does. With the right amount of attention (spent another 4 hours for the second application)

It is amazing how much a presence or absence of a topcoat affects absorption. My old HD Sportsters absorbed Obenaufs oil like there was no tomorrow, I could see the oil disappear in real time. On my Score jacket, which has a coating, Obenaufs just sat there on the surface and did nothing, even as I spread it with an applicator. Finally I panicked and started rubbing it in with my fingers - finally most of it went in, but there was some left on the surface. That residue was absorbed over a week's time while the jacket was hanging in the closet. Pecards may be even tougher to absorb having higher viscosity and being semi-solid. Obenaufs is a low viscosity liquid.

Seems like the topcoat is great for water & abrasion resistance, but is not conducive to treatments. Regardless, I would never go 20 years before treating my jacket. Why gamble on it drying out. Even if you don’t wear it, the humidity level in your house can cause the leather to dry. Might as well apply some conditioner to see if the leather will absorb it.

Those are the kind of creases you find in vintage jackets from the 30s and 40s in the sleeves.

I love seeing threads updated. All to often we get a thread started of an awesome jacket and then it gets buried, never to be revisited. I hope we can get more threads resurrected with evolution pics. Thanks @deswaaf for keeping this thread updated. Your jacket is looking better with each update!

Seems right to update, I've been AFK for a good while and still wearing this jacket every day. I love this thing, in heavy snowfall and mild autumn and spring weather alike. After the conditioning that started this post, I havent been caring for it at all. Because of its weight the best way to hang it always seems to be dumping it in a corner somewhere. I'll share some pics of random Times this jacket caught my eye, this hide is alive.

Good job on conditioning with a great result. Don't know that I would have had the patience to spend 4 hours on it, though.

I have conditioned a dozen jackets in two hours my jackets are most 60 plus years I review them once a year and select the one I feel needs conditioning. The newer ones get a wipe down with a damp rag when dirt collects.

It's hard not too put it to good use when the jacket is patterned so well, movement is not limited at all which makes it very comfortable to wear even when it's layered with wool. Here's a better quality picture:
