I would never buy a post 1898 Stetson. They just didn't have the good felt anymore.

Dean, admitting in advance that I know nothing about those style hat, I do like their looks. But I was wondering if that brim treatment is common on campaign hats and if the color indicates a more formal or dress hat.

Realizing that it's not military, and that it's really a Boss of The Plains, you are correct. It just looks like one, and I didn't feel like calling it a "Cowboy" hat. It came up on a google of "campaign hat' BTW.
