Ok, I am going to really stir the pot with this one, but man I gotta say it....Iam really sick of seeing Bindi Irwin on the TV every two seconds.
Now, I am an Australian and whilst I did have an attack of cultural cringe everytime Steve Irwin appeared in the media, I did eventually grow to like him despite the cultural generalism he inspired.
But I must draw the line at Bindi and this wildlife warrior rubbish that they go on about. People lets face it, this is a multi million dollar empire that just had to keep going, so a new queen had to be crowned and it is Bindi.
Personally I have to switch the channel everytime that cheesy smile pops up on the box. Does anyone else feel this way or am I the only heartless cynical son of a motherless goat here.

Here’s another one, I feel for the kid as well, her poster child image while well meant is being used by the media, the kid should be concentrating on her education, if the field of wildlife is a career dedicated towards her Dad,Cool! But not some media darling for a kid who suffers, misses her Dad, she needs to see or have better understanding, facts straight regarding wildlife, we don’t need a miniature version of Steve Irwin, I could go on and on. but frankly speaking I flip that channel, or if on the net by pass any articles with her. I'm sorry

The poor girl needs a childhood for goodness sakes. Some child actors or personalities do well. But most have major issues later in life.

Let her play!!!!And continue her education. Both are critical to growing up.

I'm in complete agreement with the tenor of remarks in this thread. It seems a lot of the Australian public is as well - as soon as the Bindi Irwin segment appeared on TV down here the other day, viewing numbers plummeted dramatically.

It has been argued that she is an intelligent and passionate girl who is accustomed to and is comfortable in the limelight. Be that as it may, she is still a child. If she wishes to dedicate her life to wildlife conservation - and that is a noble cause - I suggest she spends some time out of the spotlight learning about the cause she espouses...and growing up and maturing, both as an environmentalist and as a human being. No child - no matter how precocious - can be expected to have the depth of knowledge and maturity needed to spearhead a legitimate conservation movement. Uttering catch phrases and cliches is not mounting an argument - it is appealing to shallow sentiment.

Many children love animals and enjoy being with them - I was one (and my love of animals remains undiminished as an adult), my three year old niece is one. But the idea of thrusting a child into that world and expecting them to be a spokesperson for a cause is abhorent. Even more so when it is tied in with vested financial interests.

That's why I don't buy magazines with Bindi's face on them, and I switch the TV over when she appears. I'll be willing to listen to her at some point in the future if she has something more substantive to say than "Crocs Rule". In the meantime, I think she should have a shot at growing up out of the spotlight, not smack dead in the centre of it. She's already lost her father - I don't think she should lose her childhood as well.

I gotta say I agree with all of you, I remember seeing a photo of her and her mother a while ago, and thinking "cash cow" her mother was wearing what looked like a designer black gown, while Bindi was in what reminded me of my brothers' old Scout uniforms, and being quoted along the lines of "Bindi loves performing, she asks to be up there, I don't have to make her do anything."

That really sets my radar off in a negative sense.
I don't know as to the state of her education, and her life in general, but it seemed to me that Bindi's mother was profiting more from her "carreer" (if a nine year old can have one)than she was.

We don't get that much exposure in the States. There are plenty of other jamokes we see way too frequently however so I understand the sentiment.

The Irwins are passionate people about animal conservation. Not a bad thing. It is doubtful that Terri would ever NEED to work again considering the zoo and the existing organizations they have built up from nothing begun with Bob Irwin.

I sincerely believe the kid's passion for the cause is genuine. Is it exploitive? These days what isn't when someone is on the public eye.

Here we had Dale Ernhart as this larger than life NASCAR racer and now his son is in the cockpit. Is that exploiting the name? I guess. But like Dale Jr., Bindi or whoever will have to prove themselves by deeds or the public will lose interest quickly.

The Irwins simply wish to keep the momentum going that Steve generated for what is a very valid cause. Can't damn them for that.

The media tends to get their teeth into something and beat it to death especially when there are slower news days. You can just hear a news director "well the Koreans haven't blown up anything lately and Saddam is dead so let's run something on the Irwin kid."

I'd be happy to trade you guys down under coverage of the Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump fued with its daily banal updates for Bindi;)

No, no, really Twitch, it's fine mate, really, don't go to any bother there . . . lol

I was only wondering about Bindi's education the other day. Koop, I know we discussed this together a little while back. She certainly grew up in exceptional circumstances in a larger-than-life family - well, certainly with a larger-than-life dad. Personally, I wouldn't have exposed my little one to that sort of media exposure, but I find it hard to judge the Irwin's by my standards - their lives have been so different. Bindi was exposed to the limelight well before Steve's untimely passing, and for good or bad, she seems to have a lot of her father's zest and charisma.

My main concern is that she receives a sound, broad education.

And folks, I just think this is a bit of sour grapes on Koop's part because no one's been taking any notice of him jumping on the inflatable crococdile he put in the wading pool in his back yard. Like I said pal, nobody wants to see a man with pasty white skin wearing nothing but a fedora and a pair of speedos splashing about with a beach toy and some old rope. lol lol lol Crikey mate!

If anyone is interested I'll post the youtube link and you can be the judge ......the most interesting part is when I jump out of the pool and yell "I'm an inflatable toy warrior, crikey mate!"
