I was in the mood for some Bobby inspired Kevin this morning and turned to youtube. The first video listed for "Beyond the Sea" was a recording of Bobby Darin (whom I've never actually looked at) so I decided to watch that one first. Wouldn't ya know, I was out right impressed with Mr. Spacey's performance after watching that little clip. I don't think they could honestly have picked a better person for the biopic. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Feel free to add your two cents.

I also was impressed by Kevin Spacey's portrayal of Bobby Darin, even With minor flaws, Kevin bit older than Bobby, it didn’t matter much, having seen and heard Bobby Darin when he was alive, and recall his TV show. Spacey had the act down pat, so did the girl as Sandra Dee, I enjoyed it, even through it left me sad, the memories, thats all thats left.

You have to see Spacey's entire performance in the flic, "Beyond The Sea" - his homage to the late great Bobby Darin. It's been on the IFC (Independent Film Channel). I first saw it three weeks ago and again this past Tuesday.
Bobby Darin's story is a compelling one. He was born into difficult circumstances, suffered from poor health all of his life, was extraordinarily talented, and he died way too young.

"Beyond the Sea" is a beautifully layered film. Kevin Spacey uses some very interesting "point of view" methods to tell his story and he does so without overwhelming the viewer. He avoids clich?© and tells Darin's story without being trite.

Kevin Spacey's acting ability is perfectly showcased. His storytelling is strong and moving. He is honest in his depiction of Darin as both arrogant and sympathetic. Spacey's singing is surprisingly good. Kate Bosworth, who looks beautiful as Sandra Dee, does justice to the character. Considering her young age, it is impressive that she played the actress over a range of age.

"Beyond the Sea" draws attention to Darin's rich and varied legacy. He was a prolific songwriter, a master showman (the only performer Sammy Davis Jr. would not follow), a successful popular recording artist and an accomplished actor. "Beyond the Sea" reveals the enormity of Spacey's talent and leaves him with a legacy that is as impressive as Darin's. I was totally impressed and felt moved emotionally when the movie ended. After seeing this flic I went out and bought the Soundtrack to this film. That's just how impressed I was with Spacey's masterful performance, and I have many Darin CDs.

I own it... I suppose it did kinda sound like I hadn't seen it through. I've seen it in the theaters at least once, and on tv several times.

To see the original rent "Come September" from 1961. Cute comedy with Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrogida, Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, and Walter Slezak. It's a wonderful period piece.
