Sadly I must make others aware of this seller "pitsawyer"
There have been several threads about less than reputable sellers on ebaY. This is yet another. I post this to make others aware, so they they do not encounter the same problem. I purchased a hat from this seller (via Paypal)and after 4 days no reply I contacted her to confirm. She claimed that she was having Internet trouble. I can buy that, we have all had that problem. She said that she had received the payment and had my address and would ship on Sat. I have been patiently waiting and was about to cancel payment after close to two weeks, when the hat arrived. I checked the post mark and it had been shipped two days prior and 6 days after when she said she would ship. After much deliberation of leaving feedback at all, I decided to go the route of neutral feedback with an explanation that the item was nice but the shipping was very slow. We are all told that if we do not leave accurate feedback, others will not know a sellers true reputation. As it turns out just like the two other times I posted less than positive feedback on a seller, I got zinged in return. Anyway, this is a heads up to all to use caution if ever dealing with this seller.

So the item was nice, but you had to wait almost two weeks for it? That's it?

That wouldn't bother me at all. It hardly warrants a warning, let alone any sadness.

I have had the same thing happen to me - paid for "priority mail", which they then waited a week or two to ship. I have no problem with leaving neutral feedback for such a seller.

That is all I did, I even gave her credit for a nice item. I felt that I was very fair. As has been reported by others, when a buyer does that, so many times they will in turn get neg feedback in retaliation for just being honest.

I forgot to mention that I paid extra for two day shipping. Granted that is the way it was sent, just a week and a half later.

Ah! Well, that's different. At the very least you should be reimbursed the difference between priority (which your package clearly was not to her) and regular post. If you pay for two day shipping, then you should get as close to two day shipping as is possible.

Some people choose to use feedback as a strongarm option.
They use the threat of a negative response to get the other person to agree to certain demands.
I have observed sellers who receive my payment extremely fast not leave feedback until I have done so for them.
The are not judging their feedback based on their transaction with me as a buyer, but based on what I think of them! Silly but true.

I may be wrong here, but I don't think that he was frustrated with having to wait. He was frustrated by the sellers lack of honesty. I wouldn't leave positive feedback to a person who says they are mailing something, and then doesn't actually do it for another six days. Especially if I paid money for expedited shipping. Ebay requires quite a bit of trust in a complete stranger. This trust must be earned. If a buyer is quick on his end, the seller should do the same. Also, it was his lack of communication. It would have been much simpler for the seller to contact Jake and let him know that, for some reason or another, the package would be shipped at a later date than originally disclosed. I have no problem with sellers doing this, things happen that can cause a delay. But, in this case there was no communication from the seller. This can be very annoying.
I hope you try and refute the feedback he left you.

This is so true. I think that every seller I have ever bought from has done this to me. It makes no sense. If I pay immediately for an item, I should get good feedback immediately, for my portion of the transaction is complete. Sometimes, even if a seller is great, I just don't bother leaving any feedback. I know this means my feedback number won't rise, but I just get so sick and tired of ebayers who only give positive when they receive it.

Exactly! I want to be judged on my portion of the transaction, not what I think of your part. :eusa_doh:
I am lucky to have not had any bad (knock on wood. I have two pending...) auction experiences. When transactions are delayed I try to give things a little time to work out.

Right on Daisy

Daisy, you are so spot on with your post(s). Sellers should be required to leave feedback, prior to getting feedback. the buyer should be judged on his fulfilling his end of the contract. Then the seller can be fairly judged on his ability to fulfill his end of the contract. This retribution thing that goes on is, well it is ............
At one time I was in charge of the mail order distribution for one of Americas larger retailers. Getting the product in the hands of the buyer was paramount. Sure things go wrong from time to time, but the mark of a good retailer/seller is how they handle adversity. If a buyer pays for 2 day service, it is obvious that they want the item quickly, if they pay for it, they should receive what they pay for. Communication is often overlooked and is the cause of many a dispute.

What they said...I just got through a really bitter time with a guy who simply lied about what transpired, then tacked on extra charges, and lied about that-ended up giving me a negative feedback, and lied about why!! his last neutral/negative feedback-the day before...whew! Fedora's right about the absurd ratio of pos-neg. It just doesn't work, and neither do all the people,if you ask the average ebayer what they think about the business, an alarming number will eventually give it up that they're less than 100% satisfied 100% of the time...

SHUFFLED off to...
I recently had a bit of a...tussle with an Ebay seller. The item I won was done so at the cost of 99 cents. The seller insisted that I pay $2.50 insurance, plus shipping, plus the cost of the item. I found that a bit preposterous - paying more in insurance than the actual cost of the item - and I wrote and told him so. Then, after having no reply, I received an email from Ebay saying that I had a non-paying bidder strike against me! I was miffed! I followed the Ebay link to the exchange between the seller and I and was surpised to find a post - from an email I never received - that the 'terms of bidding were clearly written'. That T'd me off even more, so I appealed the strike via Ebay and, within a half an hour, that strike was removed. In my last communication to the seller, I wrote: "Just because it's written, it don't make it right!"

I can relate to this one. My feedback is no where near the number of items actually won on Ebay. At one point I did stop giving feedback until I received it. I figure that if a seller cannot leave anything for me that seller will not get any more if my money, since the people that usually do this are Power Sellers or someone with an Ebay store.

Without seeing your item description, I shouldn't comment further - but I can say that as a sometime eBay seller, nothing is more irksome than a buyer complaining AFTER they win the auction, about the terms of the auction.

I believe that the ebay feedback system is not properly used by most folks, because of the positive nature of most people. It becomes a brag sheet of bubbly warm-fuzzy remarks. People are so uptight about receiving a negative feedback, and people are also of good nature, and when things go wrong, it's usually a positive feedback with a negative remark, or a neutral feedback when it should be negative. The ebay feedback system is not that reliable when you see someone with over 50 thousand positive feedbacks and only a couple of negatives. Things always happen, whether by the post office or other carrier, or whatever. As a seller on eBay, I received some of the most ridiculous requests, and when I attempted to do my best to fulfill them, but couldn't, I was threatened by some nutcases that they would leave a negative feedback, and some have (i.e. product previously sold). I left ebay as a volume power seller more than a year ago because of the culture of the website. However, I am still an advocate that it is a good place to get a business rolling.

Duane

There is a very good point Duane makes here...You really have to read a certain number of feedback comments..not just go by the numbers..

You'll find many negative comments are couched by happy little Positive feedbacks...

I'm really there to avoid trouble and get the stuff I want..but after having too many close calls and hearing so many other horror stories I peruse an auction in it's totality careully before I bid. If the vibes not right I don't bid..regardless of the item..

I just received a shirt: A month after the auction end.

Turns out it was sent a month ago, it just got lost somewhere by USPS.

I'd say at least 50% of the sellers i deal with are miserably slow to get themselves in action and mail the stuff. Generally this is because they are annoyed because they didn't get the price they thought they deserved (this is my take on it, at least). So, i don't get too irate when things are slow. That is the majority of my eBay transactions, so i take it a bit easier these days.

Baron,

Maybe I've been lucky as I've had problems with less than 2% of my ebay purchases. The vast majority of sellers have shipped immediately.

When I haven't received something and haven't had communications, I send three emails. The first is a simple request for tracking information. If that is ignored I send an email entitled "Second request". If that is ignored I send an email entitled "Third and final request". In that one I mention that in my only two complaints to ebay about a seller, ebay terminated the sellers account. Which is true by the way. Ebay takes a dim view of sellers who do not perform.

I had to send my Third email to a seller yesterday. Funny, he shipped the item after receiving my email!

Also, I agree with Nulty. Read some of the feedbacks. Some of them "damn with faint praise".

Tony
