Hah, I just looked up that pitsawyer seller on ebay. Everyone here is right. positive feedback with negative comments. in the first few pages of feedback comments, he has

"Very nice item but it took longer than expected to arrive."

"a little slow, but it got to me none the less"

and

"I love the hats. They are top quality. They were worth the wait."

All marked as positive feedback. People are so afraid of getting negative feedback, they'll do that masking thing. It seems to take a lot to get someone to teh point where they'll leave negative feedback. The most recent one this guy got was after he first left the buyer positive feedback, and her negative feedback came 4-5 months later. There must have been some real problems there.

I don't know. I just don't consider slow shipping to be a reason for giving negative feedback. Not shipping is a good reason. The item is wrecked, and seller refuses a refund, is a good reason. I believe that negative feedback should only be given out in the absolute extreme cases of bad deals.

If the seller gives a refund for a mislisted item, that's worthy of a positive feedback, because maybe they think something is in good condition (ie a seller who knows NOTHING about hats). But the transaction didn't leave you out of pocket.

Unfortunately I did not look into the nuts and bolts of her feedback as closely as I should have. There is a pattern there. You also notice how she responded to my neutral comment, and I even pointed out the good as well as the bad. I have since gotten a series of emails from her TELLING me she will not accept anymore bids from me. Ha like I would deal with her again anyway.

Define slow shipping, is 11 days on a 2 day shipping charge slow? I submit it is and therefor should be noted. Once again, I did not give her negative, I gave her neutral, I believe that to be fair, as well as accurate.

Slow shipping is a problem if you expect the item to arrive and have plans for it that is for sure.
Then you have the item is not as described. I bought a tux that I knew had moth holes int he coat. It was a midnight blue and I was just interested in the pants to complete one of my tuxes anyway.
When the pants arrived, they had more holes than the jacket! Needless to say that one went winging its way back to the seller. Item not as described. :( :eusa_doh:

Been there, done that JP. I won an auction on a pair of pants that were supposed to be like new. When they arrived, they had a hole the size of a silver dollar on the right cheek and the cuff was frayed. The seller would not refund, I left Negative, and got zinged with a negative on me for my trouble. Most of my auction buys have been pleasant, but when one goes bad it is like biting into a not quite ripe persimmon. The taste that is left in your mouth, last a long, long time and makes one more wary the next time.

I don't understand why ebay allows so little space for feedback. A vote of positive/neutral/negative, and one line of text? That's not very much room to convey the subtleties of a transaction. I know, ebay has millions of transactions every day, and couldn't possibly host a detailed description of each, but I do think they could do a little better. I also think there should be a section to rate the goods, not just the service. I bought a leather laptop bag from a seller who sells dozens of them at a time. It came on time, and I left positive feedback. Then, after a month of carrying my computer, the strap pulled out of it. Turns out the "genuine leather" was wrapped around "genuine cardboard," in no way strong enough for its intended purpose. I asked the seller if I could return the bag for a refund, but he refused, despite the "satisfaction guaranteed" statement in the listing. I had to threaten to go to mediation and change my positive feedback to negative to get him to agree to exchange the bag for a different product. If there was a separate place to rate the stuff that ebay stores sell, a la bizrate and epinions, I could have posted a review of the bag, or possibly read someone else's and avoided purchasing it in the first place.
