I kind of cheap out on my gloves. I wear leather gloves in the winter but they're usually from the mall or some other local store, nothing exciting. I beat the crap out of my gloves so having a "nice" pair is not really something that interests me right now. I'm sure someone around here knows about good gloves, though.
This has been my approach, too, since for me gloves are like socks, i.e. I destroy them. For some two decades now I just wear these gloves (below). Daily abuse destroys them after a couple years but that's long enough for me.

Wow, those are literally the exact gloves I'm currently wearing (destroying). They've done the trick for me so far. Mine have a 40g Thinsulate lining.

Freaking hell! Royal Mail has been hacked and Gold Top won’t ship until it resolves.

Yeah, I just heard about this this week (behind the loop, I know). Did they get to you yet? I think they have commercial international post out now, though domestic international post is still limited.

On a selfish note, why couldn't these ransomware guys have struck last Summer when I was writing about this? Would have been a great example to raise....

They sent it like 3 days later on 27th January but it left the UK on the 7th of February…

Still haven’t received them and I’m sure I’ll have to pay taxes on them and handling fees.

They would do well to use other companies like DHL. It isn’t more expensive and the service is way better. I guess they do it out of loyalty to the Royal Mail or something.

Could be a price thing too. The private couriers can be cheaper, but certainly not always so; it may also be the case they've negotiated a bulk discount with RM. A lot of folks still prefer RM within the UK, of course, because it's service has on balance tended to be better - you actually get notification of an attempt to deliver, your parcels get stolen far less often, and if you have to go and collect them, they're generally at an easily accessible office within walking distance, rather than two trains, three buses, and a significant walk to an out of town industrial estate.... RM has been in serious decline in terms of quality of service since the selloff (as was inevitable), but to be fair, this all seems to be linked to a hacking event that appears not to have been their fault.

Whatever the reason I picked them up today. They lied about attempting to deliver yesterday as I was the one to open the door...so yeah f*ck them.

I love them! The fleece feel so luxurious and warm. They fit over my leather jackets so that's great.

I'm doubting if I could have been able to go down a size but I guess better to err on the larger side than have them too tight. I'm certainly not sending them back after shipping and 24€ in taxes. All my other gloves from different brands have been L anyway and my measurements checked out.

It will take a bit of time to get the feeling of the Cluch and brake with these so I can't imagine using the merino wool. I'm not used to winter gloves and they fit different. I will look straight out of a time machine with these o_O

Ah, the universal experience of "we tried to deliver", the Biggest Lie since "cheque's in the post!"

Now delivery companies over here get accused of that so often, than when they *did* try, the response you get is a passive aggressive photo of your block door.... (often the *wrong* door in our block, which is the biggest part of the problem.... and a reason even if I'm not in for a few days I still have a lot of stuff delivered to my office).

Anyhoo, the gloves look great. I know what you mean on the sizing - I'm often between sizes on gloves myself (especially, it seems, so many are just a hair long in the finger for me), though It seems (even if it's psychosomatic, which I've not ruled out) they snug up after a while. These have a great, old-school look while still looking really practical. Be interesting to hear how they break in. They look good with both the black and the brown leather, too - as you anticipated.

These look far, far nicer than I was expecting from their site to be honest.

Which pair do you have?
Have no idea. Three years ago when we were having hay delivered, one of the workers dropped his gloves, and I found them. My wife texted the driver of the truck telling him we found a pair of gloves, and would hold on to them until someone got back this way to pick them up. After a couple of months, I realized no one was coming for them, so I washed them and started using them. They have leather palms and heavy textile on the backs.

Sounds like actual work gloves.

I have the same style. Mine are deerskin and have a pile lining—they’re my winter gloves. I think I’ve had them for about 6 years now. Great value, I think I paid about 25 bucks for them… and I have worn the crap out of them!

Quite by chance I saw a thread on gloves and decided to have a look and contribute because the gloves trade is very dear to me since my great-grandfather from my mother's side, Mr Gennaro Forte, was a tanner ( he owned a tannery which later was sold to the Temin family) specialised in kid leather for gloves ( Italian and even more precisely Neapolitan gloves).

Mr. Gennaro Forte at the time when he came back to Naples

The gloves I see published here are mostly utilitarians and heavy duty gloves but that is not the kind of gloves that are traditionally made in Naples-Italy.

They excel there at making fine gloves, for both men and women, mostly made in kid leather but more sporty leather types are also used, such as peccary.

Neapolitan glove making is a tradition which goes back hundreds of years and also in the US there were many Italian immigrants who were in the glove trade. My great-grandfather came to the States in 1910 and stayed until the beginning of WWI, in 1915, then came back to Italy to pick up the family that was about to live to go to the US but then he remained there.

This is from the Omega factory

Similar equipments were used by my great-grandfather workers. The company was then sold to the Manila and Fabio Temin brothers, who bought the company when they arrived in Naples from Ferrara ( they had the SAMIA company)

Here a couple of pages where you can read , in English, about Neapolitan glove making
