Here's the battered brown FQHH. I like it, and it seems to have darker marks over the brown to give it a bit of character. It hasn't had as rough treatment as my other jackets, so I don't know how it copes with scuffs and scratches.

Good morning wdw,

That's definitely brown battered HH right? They only seem to have tan and seal now, and brown battered steer hide which seems a lot softer.
But I want the hide you've got there! Very nice, well done.

The battered steer is much much softer and lighter than fqhh, also much more sensitive to wear and tear, I own a shackleton waistcoat made out of it.
Maybe you could consider the Mustang leather which has a "battered" look:

Thanks Harris, helpful as ever.
If the battered steer is more sensitive then I'll be saying no to it. Must great for that waistcoat though.
That mustang hide looks nice. I don't know how, in all my searching, I never came across it. Why's it not listed with the other leathers? It looks less waxy than the battered HH and almost more worn. Wonder if it's less waterproof and durable... Nice colour regardless.

Goodmorning Furrow.
I would advise to ask for some leather samples from Aero, ask them also about hides not listed on their website, then you can feel the leather.
And then test them, scratch them, put them under the shower, abuse them, so you can see how they feel worn and broken-in.

I'm writing the email now haha. It got me thinking about what I want and then I started looking online again and the cycle continues. I didn't know there were unlisted hides so it was worthwhile.

Are they starting carnaval where you are or are you too far north?

Yeah, Aero first made the Shackleton with battered FQHH, then soon changed it to a softer, more pliable steer. To be fair, I think the lighter hide is better suited to the waistcoat.

I wouldn't describe battered FQHH as more sensitive than regular hide, in my experience of owning two in that hide. I don't know about battered steer but can imagine that as being somehow softer than FQHH.

Yeah that's what I read on the Shackleton page, but I can't find the brown battered HH anywhere, only seal and tan, but there is brown battered steer hide. I definitely prefer the battered brown over seal and tan, but someone got a battered seal Plainsman, which looked more brown and very nice overall. Samples will solve this...

Good to hear that the battered HH is tough stuff. I agree the steer probably is better for a waistcoat.
BTW I think the battered HH is a lighter European hide rather than the American FQHH used by Horween. Maybe it's still front quarter. Doesn't matter really.

Aaanyway, I'll ask Holly for samples and about the Mustang hide, since I have no clue what that is really.

@Harris HTM I'm way down South in Limburg, so everyone's out in costume today getting pissed. A sight to behold.

I'll let you know if I find out anything interesting.

If you live in Limburg then I would consider a trip to Keuln in Germany. There is an Aero Stockist there (Kentaurus), a really nice guy, you can see all the models and leather samples.

Really!? Damn I'll have to do that.
I'd feel a bit bad going there and looking at everything, only to order through aero online. Do you think he'd mind?
A quick look at their site tells me they have an August, but it is about 250 euros more expensive than from Aero...
