Superfluous

no no he doesn't work for them. He just appears on every single aero thread ever posted to remind us all what a great deal they offer. And if ever anyone isn't completely happy he's there in a flash too to either rubbish the thread, derail it somehow, or basically distract from the issue at hand (assuming it's genuine) in any way he possibly can. But he absolutely definitely does not work for aero and I hope that's clear.

ello ello ello what's going on here? Don't tell me his aero shrank too!?

This is getting out of hand

But seriously guys, how about a bit of respect for the OP? Superfluous, I think battered would be a good look for you. HD I see as more of a vintaged goatskin guy. For Pawineguy, I think something thick and dense.. perhaps bison or elk would satisfy

As for the OP's planned teamster. How about seal goatskin? It's a similar weight and character prone too

I too have wondered often about this hide. I think a fur collared "Barnstormer" with a shearling liner in Battered Brown would be a wonderful coat and would make my first "custom ordered" Aero. Question though is it better for us on this side of the pond to go with Insurrection and them alone?

What I'd do if I lived outside of the US-scan the US ebay listings for the Thurston listings. They usually have quite a few models with measurements listed. I think those are the most accurate measurements.

I'd agree with the advantage of a try-on. I was able to go up to Galashiels in July when I was last looking at buying one (I really need to get around to posting pictures of that trip, and the jacket... great fun. Spent two hours there, and the staff who showed me round and took my details were very generous with their time), and it took out all of the guess-work as compared to ordering blind, so to speak. Worf, your notion of this with a mouton collar on a Barnstormer works for me; I've long considered something similar myself; blanket-lined, nice long hair on the mouton... something with a real edge of Von Richthoffen's rakish style to it.

Anyone know if the Barnstormer is long enough to wear over a blazer?

another +1 for going through Thurston.

Wade and Carrie really know their stuff when it comes to these jackets and they know what mods Aero will and won't let you make. You get the fit jacket (which they then guarantee the fit) plus its a lot quicker than ordering direct.

What I'd recommend that they don't necessarily mention is send them some pics of you wearing the fit jacket, they can they advise on every aspect of it from size to sleeve and body length. Thats how I got my premium bootlegger to fit so perfectly.

Cheers for the info- I'm thinking of a Teamster in it. Just for the record, I've always found Sloan's advice to be on the money. Schitzo was jesting, I'm sure. Seal goatskin might also be an option.

Worf, there is an unspoken risk involved when using Insurrection's offer of a fit jacket: the fit jacket. I wanted a Vanson Team jacket and as Vanson had none anywhere in their pipeline, Insurrection had them send me a Stadium jacket as a fit jacket; they are identical in size. The plan was for me to verify the size and return the Stadium fit jacket. A UPS label was even included.
Alas, my wife took one look at me in the Stadium and inquired "Can you just keep this one, it looks terrific!!" So, I was left with little option but to call Insurrection and explain that I needed to pay for this Staduim jacket, and still order a Team jacket. In the end I had twice the jackets, at twice the price..... :D
You sir, have been warned......

I don't like the tan one that Sloan posted. Might be nicer in the flesh, but it doesn't appeal to me. I really really really like Sloans racer in tumbled(?) cordovan. That really appeals to me. If I had to get just one aero, I would go with the classic brown fqhh, or cordovan. Then go from there with a few different options. Get the staples or classic ones first.

Nope but that's a "Spring/Fall" jacket. It was single digits this morning up here. That calls for Shearling, Shearling and nuthin' but Shearling. Aren't you bout due for another jacket as well? Hmmm????

I actually have a new Johnson Leather's in cream suede, but won't be wearing it until probably Spring (or sooner if I travel someplace warmer/drier). I have a motorcycle jacket (café racer style) coming shortly in black kangaroo. I'll post that up when I get it!

Two questions for those in the know: Does the battered brown steerhide exhibit as much color variation as the battered brown FQHH (the sample I received seems more uniform in color)? And is the battered steerhide as heavy a hide as the regular CXL steer?

Straight answer is no there's nowhere near as much variation, and it's more a mid-weight hide - my other half is getting a jacket made in it, and there's no way she'd tolerate anything approaching FQHH. It's actually a really nice shade of brown, if you look at the Kradjacke thread, that's made from the battered steer.
