I'm sure you folks recognize this young man... 1977 MLB Hall of Fame. Ernie was a big supporter of the Chicago Boys Clubs...
A real straight-shooter. No scandals. A role model for us kids.

Shortly after the White Sox won the series I ran into Ernie at O'Hare Airport; asking my boyhood idol,
"isn't it great the Sox won Ern?"
"What's so great about it?"
...he wasn't called Mr. Cub for nothing.

"During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700 times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at-bats a season. That means I played 7 years without ever hitting the ball." - Mickey Mantle in Mickey Mantle - Memories and Memorabilia(Larry Canale, Krause Publications, 06/20/2011, Page 150) [Mickey Mantle Quotes]

1913 - In their first official game as Yankees, New York loses to Walter Johnson and the Senators 2-1. After giving up an unearned run in the first, Johnson begins a string of shutout innings that will reach a record 56 before the St. Louis Browns score in the fourth on May 14

Last night Darvish went almost five innings before Joe pulled him. Heyward has been hitting. Heyward.
Back-to-back homers stuff too. Heyward. Now if Lester returns off dl and belts 'em out, some goat curse reverse.

Sale has been struggling but will pull out of it. I only wish Darvish could gain more consistency and go deep.
A passing thought that this might be a propitious moment for Theo to make a call to Boston for a trade.

Busting up a DP has always been an art. The rule should have been "Intentionally causing injury" if you are worried about collisions.

Now if my Cardinals could figure out how to be consistent, I would be much happier!
