Pub ordered to play only easy listening
By BEN LANGFORD

AN Nortnern Teritory pub has been ordered to play only ``easy listening'' music.
This means Barry Manilow is in, the Rolling Stones out.
And under a ruling by the Licensing Commission, the music must stop at 10pm.
The easy listening edict has been imposed for the beer garden at the Alice Springs Plaza Hotel.
The commission fears noisier live performers would lead to ``anti-social behaviour'' from young people.
The decision came as part of a review of the hotel's licensing conditions forthe courtyard.
A decision to allow more people than there are seats in the courtyard was found to be working well.
Seats must be provided for 80 per cent of the maximum number of courtyard patrons.
But the commission decided to impose ``entertainment'' restrictions on the bar.
Plaza Hotel general manager Ian Sloan said that the decision was suggested by hotel management.
But he admitted: ``It is hard to define, isn't it?''
The commission ruled: ``Before 22:00 hours (10pm) each night pre-recorded and live music (solos or duos only) generally identified as `easy listening' may be played in the courtyard. After 22:00 hours each night there shall be no music in the courtyard.''
