That's wonderful! I love bamboo (although I do have this problem where when I hear the word, the Old Bamboo song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang pops into my head and it will often loop for several days).

Do tell how you assembled it without nails?

ah ha, you want my trade secrets? what do you have to trade?...

well, there are 2 verticals that are compressed by the mantel.
Then the horizontal is attached through drilled holes with a peg which comes from the stem part of the leaf. The horizontals holding the hats are resting in place; perhaps later I'll peg them.

Bamboo and fedora's

Hey Surely, that is a great bamboo rack and what a great hat collection to set on it. What a swell idea. If you are talking about Bamboo and fedora's those are 2 subjects right up my alley. This is in my back yard.

does everyone store there lids in the open? I saw a moth come in the front door yesterday and it got me scared! I only have 2 felts right now and I don't know how fast they get em. I don't have the space to keep hats in the closet.

Thanks for naming them - Absolutely wonderful collection. I'm particularly enamoured by the cream colored (?) Borsalino. Very yummy.

IndyCop: I keep my hats out in the open, I've only been collecting for 3 years or so, no problems yet - knock on wood. It might have to do with the fact that our bedroom (where I keep my hats) is far away from any exterior entrance, and no moths get in here - at least none that I've seen.

When we use the term "moth" we are talking about any insect that eats textile fibers (wool, fur,etc.). Most of these insects prefer to do their dirty work IN THE DARK! So, unless your closet or hatbox is cedar lined (or has moth balls in it), you're likely better off storing them where light will get to them.

Makes perfect sense.
