Thoughts On Fedoras with Back Bows

Hi Folks

I trust everyone had a pleasurable Thanksgiving.
In regards to Fedora's with a back bowed ribbon. Would this style have been a custom made to order style?
I see a few on ebay and etsy etc, and I was just wondering what my fellow loungers thought of this style fedora.
TIA
Best regards
CCJ

They were very popular for a short period of time in the late 1950s, mostly on porkpies and flat tops, but to a lesser degree on fedoras and homburgs. They seem to have been mostly targeted at the university set.

They style was also popular in the '10s and '20s.

I looked at having my latest with a back bow or similar arraignment but decided against it, going with an overlapping of the ribbon

on the left side of the crown instead.

Dredging up yet another antique thread. How else am I going to catch up to all of you in hat knowledge. I would like so see some pre-WWII or 20s back bows if someone has some to share.

Back Bows are an interesting diversion in 50s hat styles. I now have two, a Lee Jet (1953 provenance) and a Mallory Aristocrat c.1955? The Mallory is on the bottom. Both have 2" brims and shorter crowns, and I'm OK with that (keep telling myself this...)

I think the back (box) bow looks great on a shorter brim fedora. I have a '50's labelled Bloomingdales with a back bow that I like so much I had Mike at NW Hats make me a duplicate. I think it works with the shorter brim that adds to the casual look. Both the original and the custom from Mike are my go to hat when I just want to throw something on my head regardless of what I am wearing.

I love me some backbow hats! Something about the symmetry, perhaps?
