Newbie here! AWESOME Whippets guys! I love all the colors! I recently got my first Stetson and it's a Whippet. I've been toying with picking up a new Stetsonian but wanted vintage instead. After a long search on the Bay I found one. Not the color I wanted but it was my size and looked pretty clean. It arrived the other day and I LOVE it! I love the feel of the felt! I love the proportions! I love the color! And the most important, my wife loves it! :D I am hooked! I want every cooler there is LOL From reading all the posts from this thread I'm guessing mine is from the mid 50's, leaf on logo. It doesn't have a plastic liner protector tho. It doesn't look like it ever had one. It has a 2 1/2" brim with a 3/8" grosgrain edge. The ribbon is 1 1/2". I forgot the measure the crown opened. As shown here it's about 4 1/2". I did a quick diamond crown. When I have some time I will try to clean it up even though I like it a bit messy like on my pic. I definitely needs some steam on the brim. It keeps trying to snap back up. The brim by the bow also dips down when I'm wearing it. I guess it's the shape of my round head. I'll see if steam can fix this. Anyways, glad I can now contribute to the forum and hope to contribute more when I get more Whippets :D

I'm calling bullshit on this! You guys found a time machine and are going back and buying Whippets! OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me rent the time machine! I want a new Whippet and a couple of new 7X CB westerns. I might even get really picky and get a Stetson 100 while I'm back in 1952 (I think that is a good year to visit to buy hats).

I am in awe of some of the finds I see on this site. I am obviously not beating the right bushes.

Thanks hatsRme! I was shocked how clean it is! It's not cooperating with steam. I can't get the brim from dipping on the bow side. I like to wear my hats slightly tipped to the right but the brim is dipping to the left :( I need to get it ready for colder weather :D

I bought this back when I thought I was a 7 5/8 in the Whippet. The light grey. I'm 7 5/8 in the stratoliner but all other Stetsons I'm 7 3/4. Anyway kinda uncommon color. Still haven't wore it yet after having it a year

Another unique color combo thanks to Deckard.
I saw that one. Looks cool. I have all the colors except dark brown. Since they stopped making sovereign grade felt I've held off buying anymore. Cause I bought a caribou temple in the new Royal deluxe and compared to the old sovereign grade it's definitely a cheaper made hat. So I thought I'd splurge and have Art make me a copy in beaver in dark brown

There must be a dedicated thread for these modern Winchester puppies, no?

One would think it is this thread. From the very first post: "Advertised as a Whippet. Well at least it looks like one even if it isn't marked as such. I know we've discussed the semantics of the labeling so we won't have to do that again here. This will be just a showcase of Whippet or Whippet-like hats in their varying colors, shapes & sizes."

Everything discussed here is a Stetson, so I think the recent posts are fair game.

Does anyone have one of the premier open crown Whippets. I'd like to see some pics and opinions on how they compare to a standard Whippet. What are you getting for the extra $

Introducing you to a new (to my hat rack) vtg. Stetson Whippet. This light gray felt is an excellent example of this iconic 50's hat. The gray felts of the Stetson Whippet were varied shades over the decades. I have not seen a lot of the light gray felt. I am partial to this shade.

While this may not be the top line fedora at the time of retail, it is special when compared to any of todays on the shelf offerings. I always am taken at the ribbon stitches and how they are hidden and well done. The felt is an even thickness, consistent density. Well done. I agree that other hats fro the same time, offer even higher quality, but this hat still stands tall.

All the above is an aside to the iconic styl'n and proportions.

Very nice example, Eric. I too am appreciative of the lighter grays. Where did you source this one?
