What would you call this style of hat?

View attachment 676744

It may have started out as some named model but it just looks like an open crown hat with what we refer to as an organic crease; a somewhat random crease pattern that happens over time, particularly when the wearer doesn't feel the need to keep to the smooth and /or symmetric creases traditionally used.

I want a hat like this one. Can anybody tell me the brim size, approximate crown height, maybe name of similar hat? The last pick is kind of a joke and kind of not. I like the general shape, higher front pinch lower rear crown.

I would send the pictures to whomever you choose to make the hat. I'd go 5 ¾ in crown with a 2 ¼ in brim or less with an overwelt and please keep your finger away from the trigger until you are ready to fire.

ET, good to see you again. Pic #3 the crown style is generally called a tugboat style When the crown front is higher than the crown rear. It’s a favorite of Eric @Short Balding Guy. You might contact him for general dimensions.
Thanks Jack!!! I bought a hat yesterday on eBay that I thought I may be able to style to suit what I want. Tugboat style! I never knew. Here is some pics of the hat I bought. It is Royal Stetson Fedora.

Does anyone have information on when Stetson produced the Old West Collection line? I've found older posts from 2015 where people were discussing wanting some of the models, but I've also seen indications they were made much earlier than that. Was it a designation the Stetson used more than once? I just acquired a Bat Masterson from the OWC, and the paper under-band tag appears WAY older than 9 or so years. Thanks in advance!

out of curiosity: what’s the lowest open crown hat you’ve ever owned?

and what do you think the lowest a crown could go and still get a somewhat decent (albeit shallow) fedora crease?

thanks!

The lowest I have ever made was 5" for a pork pie with a finished crown of just under 4". I would think that too low for a fedora and the proportions would just look off. I suggest a 5 1/4" open would get you a 4 1/4" finished crown with a modest centre dent.
