Thanks for that. I had a feeling that the dates were suspect, but I really don’t know much about these things.
I also wondered if there might be a little damage at the top point of the pinch. The seller has given no more real information than what I quoted, but he has 100% positive reviews on previous sales.
What do you mean by the brim being dimensional?

The dimensional cut brim has different widths on the sides than front to back. It's one of the defining features of the Indy hat. The original is believed to be 2 1/2" (2 5/8" according to some) width on the sides and 2 3/4" front and back.

This modification to the stock Poet (or "Australian model" if Deborah Nadoolman's memory is correct) was done in house by a man named Richard Swales, by hand, with scissors no less! Hypothetically, it would be a desirable hat for an Indy fan to find a vintage HJ that hat been trimmed by Swales.

....or maybe it's a "close enough" hat that an Indy fan picked up in the 80's. The photos are not the best to pick out the block shape. Though since this was likely post Temple of Doom, it may be that more tapered iteration of the hat, produced by Borsalino.

Thanks again. One last question. You suggested it might be wool. I was under the impression that Herbert Johnson didn’t make wool felt fedoras. Is that not correct?

Here's a question for those who were in the market years ago:

Did Brent Black ever ship his panamas with the hat pin as shown in his website image:

Mine did not come with one. It's okay, though. I would probably have to explain what the "BBB" meant to people who ask. Right now, I would probably say, "Better Be Buying" Montecristi Finos.

Morning, Friends,

Been wondering .. you guys prefer orange spongey or brush for typical cleaning? Brush suggestions would be appreciated. Bristles are really stiff on only one I have so I've been using sponge thing.
Also, when re sewing a sweat into a hat, are you damaging felt w/ new holes? Is there some kinda' suggested limit to how many x's a sweat can be replaced?

Hope everyone's well out there, honestly feels we might be turning a corner w/ the Covid : )

Brushes and sponges serve two different purposes. The brush is used to remove dust and debris, and brush out the nap a bit. Brushing and steaming give new life to the felt and it is apparent in the look of the hat when finished.

The little sponges are for removing dirt and grime that may be a bit embedded or the like. The sponge will likely remove a little of the surface felt along with the grime.

If you don't have a hat or Western shop near you, many online dealers will sell you a brush for about $12-15. Try the Village Hat Shop, Judith M Millinery, Del Monico Hatters for starters.

As for the sweatband question, I personally think you'd have to put in many new sweats to achieve failure. I can't prove it, but I suspect that, over time, the older holes re-felt a bit and close up. But you probably are creating a weak spot in some way. I just don't think it's appreciable.

This is a Canadian made Stetson and the normal Stetson dating guides don’t all translate to these hats made under license. I have a couple of these made in Canada Stetsons but I’m not knowledgeable enough to date yours.

You might try posing it in the thread linked below and seeing if other with more knowledge can help you.
