That is neither a pork pie nor does it have an un-flanged (flat) brim.

Nothing in the current Stetson lineup fits the bill...This Dobbs has similar proportions, but is a wool hat.

A pork pie hat is a stingy brim with a telescope crown that pops back out in the center. From a bird's eye view the top of the hat would look circular...like Heisenberg from Breaking Bad.

It's really more of a Trilby with the brim snapped up all the way 'round.

That’s a really stingy brim fedora, also sometimes called a trilby (in the UK “trilby” has a different meaning). It not only has a stingy (narrow) brim, it also has a very low crown. This is the type of hat that isn’t very popular here on The Lounge, but it does have its fans. The good news is if you like this style you can find them pretty easily and usually cheap: not a lot of demand.

If you’re a size 7 1/4, I have two similar hats for sale in the classifieds for $40 for the pair.

The dimensions are too small to be a trilby. Looks more like a 'porkpie' which, instead of the more traditional telescope has had a 'fedorish' crease put in (possibly a diamond). There would be very little head room under that crown.
As DH mentioned above, this type of hat can usually be found pretty cheap (compared to other styles) but if you wanna dig deep into your pocket, cast your eye on 'The Morgan' as sold through JJ hatters in NYC.

I don't know why they're calling that a pork pie...it is not.

A little pricey for a wool hat.

My advice:
Look for any quality felt hat with a very short flat brim in the color combination you like. If it's a good fur-felt you can always change / hand crease the crown to any shape you desire, just using some steam and patience.
I have already converted several "Trilby's" and "Stingy Brims" etc. into "Pork Pie's" aka telescope crown shapes. I personally like them more long-oval or even "Egg" shaped other than just round.
BTW: You will find much better quality felt if you look for used vintage hats. Especially in the Pork Pie / Stingy field.

When I was blocking my straw hat with a wooden hatblock and steam iron. It came out alright but compared to a straw hat blocked at a factory using a blocking press has crisper edges and I really want that on my blocked hats.

Are there ways to get crispier and defined edges of the hats when blocking by hand/steam iron?

I'm thinking of getting a new hat to replace rabbit fur felt I bought from a non experience hatter in my home town (it was a low price tag of 130$ anyway).

Thinking of switching it up and I am usually partial to the pinch but thinking of a modified telescope crown with a bit of a an angle so not quite a pinch but not a full circle from the top view (more like an egg shape). But my question is, since the telescope is a flat top, does it sit more shallow on your head? And may not feel as solid? I only remember trying 1 telescope crown hat but it was also too big for me.

I’ve got a nice grey 7 3/8 vintage Knox with 1 5/8” bound brim that I need to get rid of. It’s not in the Classifieds but I’ll send some pictures later when I’m home if you like.

YES!!!!! The style and name go back a ways....here are two 1860's examples....first is a repo made from an example in a museum.....the second is a real officers hat from the time.....

Anything BUT the telescope crown is NOT a Pork Pie....as Pappy himself would attest to as well!!!

One can get a little anal about hat clasification. I guess it's best to remain flexible regarding definitions as there are too many differences of opinion as to what is what. If a hatter or vendor wants to call a certain hat something, so be it. The hat I posted is called a 'Porkpie' by both Stetson & JJ hatters, even though it isn't strictly a porkpie.
