Thanks, they are located in Chicago . There felt hats start at 10X beaver , really look good on there web site . They claim to be the largest supplier of uniform hats in the U.S.

Does anyone have a Stratford hat ? I was looking at Winchester hat blanks and saw where they are owned by Stratford hat so I checked out there web site . Mostly uniform hats or western but I did see a couple I liked . Prices are good and I would think the quality is . So, anybody know anything about them ? Thanks in advance .
I have two, I like both. I have a really, really nice brown fur felt long hair finish Homburg (they no longer make these) and a fur felt Olive Drab "trooper/campaign" hat. The campaign hat has is fairly new and is VERY GOOD quality and is a good representative of current production. Now be aware they DO still make wool trooper hats, so if you want fur felt look closely at the options. Not sure of the quality of those wool...................They do offer a LOT of custom options so look closely at the features of the base hat to make sure it is exactly what you want.

M Hatman, thanks, I think I need one of those. I'll call them and see if they have a store or a customer pickup at there place of business. This might call for a road trip to Chi-town, Lou Malnates pizza, Portilos hot dogs and Italian beef. Oh yeah, I can see it now !

OK.........Glider............now I want to go!!!!!;) While you are out and about be sure to check out Hats Plus and the Optimo store. The Optimo store is a good place to look around and dream. Their hats are WAY expensive......
Darn you......now I will not get a thing done today for thinking of a trip into the city....food and hats.....what could be better?!?!??!?!?!;):(

So I'm looking for an authentic Tyrolean hat, and see that most are a dark lush green. I've also seen some that are blue, as well as black.

Can anyone here tell me what the different colors mean or is there a reason that most hats I see are the dark green?

I know very little about Tyrolean hats, but I've read they were originally a hunter's hat and were dyed green to provide the hunter a bit of camouflage. There might be some meaning behind the other colors, but my guess is it was simply a "marketing" decision made to offer potential buyers a choice of colors other than green.

Hello. I own three Stratton hats: two felt and one straw. The felt are stiff as plywood and very rugged. They are all three are uniform hats but I use them as causal hats that I know can take some abuse. If you have a specific question I can try to answer it.

M Hatman, doing a bumming around hat day sounds like fun . I doubt precious will let me slip off to Chi-town without her so the hat day probably wont happen . Deadlyhandsome , I was looking at Strattons straw trooper hats , there are 2 that would fit that description . They actually look a lot like an open road . Might make a pretty good everyday summer hat .

Hi all, does anybody have any tips for protecting the engraving on leather sweatbands? I’m wearing the heck out of my vintage Stetson and the “XXX Stetson” gold writing at the front is already starting to show signs of rubbing of from forehead contact. Any suggestions?

Swap it out, Nate! It has been my disappointing experience that those vintage sweats tend to degrade quickly under daily wear. If you want to keep it "nice," that's what I would recommend.
