Fruno is right on about the Mode Edge. I have a couple of them. there is nothing thinner about the felt though. They are thicker and/or heavier than a Stratoliner or Playboy for example. Definately not summer lighter weight felts. At least none of mine are.

Hi,

I've a reasonably good quality Milan straw from the 1950's. It is, however sun damaged, faded and discoloured, probably from a shop window as its uneven.

Is it possible to re-colour? Dye the straw successfully?

Search through the Akubra overload thread and you'll see a lot of mentions.. In the USA, David Morgan is popular but you'll pay more than if you order from Australia. Shipping is as quick as about 10 days if from Australia. Check Everything Australian, Aussie Bush Hats, or Australian Gear online. I've had good results with them all. A hat might be cheaper at one of those spots than another so worth checking around.

All American dealers who sell Akbura hats go through American distributor David Morgan, and their prices are much higher with many less models/colors available. So I recommend ordering from Australia, unless you're in a rush and price is of no concern.

HatsDirect (The Hattery) keeps nearly all Akubra models/colors/sizes in stock, but their prices are higher than other dealers and their shipping is expensive. Everything Australian has lower prices and less expensive shipping... but you may have to wait three months for your model/color/size to be ordered from the factory. I've bought from both with happy results, and also Aussie Bush Hats and Oilskins.

I just purchased this from an antique store yesterday and would like help identifying. It is a Stetson through Marshall Field and is labeled "The Avenue" on the sweatband. Any help as to the model (could it be an "Avenue"?) and dating would be greatly appreciated. It's my size and fits well (7 3/8) in fantastic condition (no moth bites) or odors! My homework suggests a 1930's or 40's Homburg...I think it was a real steal at $65.
Thank you , Mike

I just purchased a couple from Australiangear, They have a sale going on some of them right now, prices roughly 30% less than David Morgan, and that's including shipping. plus models and colors not available here. One of the one's I ordered was a Cattleman in Bluegrass Green.
