Based on the fedora "definition" thread, I'm guessing...

Yeah, it seems to me that the word "fedora" fits such a wide swath of hats and has such a varied definition we end up getting into the "to me a fedora is..." line of thinking. Then we end up getting into what people like instead of what "is" called a fedora. And we also get into what people's impressions were before they came here, too. (For instance, I never thought of a homburg as a fedora before. "To me" it was just a homburg. It never occurred to me that it could be thought of as a fedora until I started visiting these pages.)

On an amusing side note, I was in Washington D.C. last month and we had a gathering at a local watering hole. One of our fellows came late and he was wearing one of those wool stingies that come in L, M or S and had no liner. He took one look at my Stetson Whippet and then got all embarrassed that he wasn't wearing "a real fedora" compared to mine. But the strict fact is, he did have a fedora on. It just wasn't a vintage or expensive one.

Which current hat manufacturer has the most sales of fur felt hats, I wonder? Would that be Stetson, Akubra, Scala, or someone else?

Well, it can't be Stetson, since Stetson is not a current manufacturer. Hatco would get my vote. And, I'm thinking Borsalino still sells a lot of hats. Interesting question.

I have a question for those who have worked on their own ribbons...
Here is one I am working on. I just have it tacked down right now.

I think that the top of the ribbon will shrink tight to the hat when I steam it (after it is fully attached) - but what about a hat with more taper? How do guys get the ribbon tight at both the bottom and the top of the ribbon when the hat has a bunch of taper?

You need to iron a curve into the ribbon. I believe its called "swirling" or something along those lines. There are a couple of threads showing it...

One thread: RibbonSwirling

I know there is one with pics that show it well. Search on swirling.
