I just used this for the first time.

IMG_6806.jpg

Worked pretty good and I'm sure I'll get better as I use it more. But I got this Montecristi from Art Fawcett with a small curl on the brim. I was outside in a mist and the curl went away. I also wanted more of a curl. I knew I wouldn't be shipping out hats to get the curl restored so I looked for a solution I could do in house. Anyway, for a first attempt it think it went pretty well.

Below is the link for the Etsy store where I bought this.

I should have been more specific. I was referring to the recent and short lived “Pure Beaver” hats Stetson made as part of the reintroduced Excellent line. I’ve often thought that the dimensions and details of the recently discontinued Stetsonian combined with the felt of the recently discontinued Excellent New York LE would make an incredible hat.
I've seen a few of those recent Excellents going upwards of $300 now on ebay.

There are lots of ways the hat “should” look. You can give it a cattleman’s crease in keeping with the thin ribbon western dress vibe of the hat (this looks like the way the hat was creased at one point):

Or, you could push the crown open from the underside:

And shape like a fedora (diamond crease shown):

Welcome, and good luck.

Hey, that's my Borsalino now. lol. The "famous" Moon bashing video. :) It is an amazingly soft and pliable hat. Still Love it. Thanks Moon, wherever you are now.

And there was an even more short lived Excellent model during that time called "Fortune and Glory". A Holy Grail indeed. Fantastic feel and finish.

43FF5566-BFCB-48FF-B3A6-BB2134224EC9.jpeg HI, Found this in my local antique shop, a beat up vintage aluminium block that is electric with small steam outlet holes.
It’s made by Frank Spieler in Frankfurt and appears to be supplied by Reslaw in London.
I’ve never seen one, does anyone have any info on these and an approximate date please? It’s a cool piece, quite pricey but still considering buying it :)

Cool period piece, but I’d be scared to actually use it. It looks all too easy to shock yourself; I’m thinking Underwriters Laboratory never saw that piece of equipment.

Maybe add it to this thread:

I’m curious as to why you think it’s better than the other Excellent models: Stratoliner, New York LE, etc. Is is just personal tastes, or was it made to a higher standard?

Personal taste/the rare Tobacco felt (which yes, I know the New York was offered in). Heck, it's Matt Deckard's Indy hat!

Thanks, I had to do a google search on what a orange hat sponge was.. LOL.... I ordered one and it should arrive shortly.

Hard to say without seeing them but I just removed a small smudge from the brim of a light coloured fedora with dry corn starch and an orange hat sponge. I rubbed the starch into the stain, let it sit for a few minutes then brushed it out. A low risk option to try.
