I don’t know about “contentious hat wearers” but i know that reading about hats and restorations from old is nothing like popping a sweatband stitch on a prized hat. Pick up a 7X CB or a 60 yr old Borsalino and flip the sweatband not considering the stitch condition and see how you feel the moment you hear that pop.
It’s not so much about hurting “collector value” as much as it is about hurting your pride and your hat.
Here’s a little food for thought also. It’s fine reading/researching and learning, no matter the topic, but applying intellectual understanding to other’s individual experience diminishes the thesis.
I hope i did not offend. My apologies if so. I just wanted to inform.

I did feel like crying a little when my first Mallory, and first 2 3/4" brim, did the fart heard 'round the head the first time I put it on.

Beaver felt is hard to come by if you’re not an established hatter with an active account. You might try Etsy and look for the Hat Maker’s Emporium. Aside from that, the most common beaver felt in the US is made by Winchester, but they don’t sell to the public and we’ve heard they aren’t taking new wholesale accounts right now either. You can try FEPSA in Portugal, but their website isn’t great. Otherwise, Agnoulita has rabbit, hare, and rabbit/hare blend hat bodies. Agnoulita might also be able to sell you a beaver hat body, but I’ve never seen one so I can’t speak to their quality. There are other felters in Europe and Asia, but I don’t know how to purchase their wares or what quality they are. Good luck.

I'm not sure of the best place to ask, so I'll start on this thread. It is summer, and mighty hot here. Anyone know of a source for a high quality straw/hemp/panama Bowler? Or recommendations for brands or models of vintage straw Bowlers (if such actually exist)?

In addition to the above two stores, I would also recommend DelMonico hatter. Very easy returns, though hopefully you won't need to.
My 150 anniversary Stetson shantung OR was purchased from Delmonico. I ordered 7 1/4 and it was too big. They immediately got me the shipping label to return, but I held off, thinking I might just give the hat as a gift. Months later they contacted me, and still would have done a return/exchange. I was pretty amazed. I felt sheepish about my own irresponsibility up until then, and declined again, knowing a hat one size large could be sized down with foam or felt.
Now I've had it out of the box, on my head, padded first with tissue paper (too loose), then this morning I added a strip of soft leather cut on a curve for the sweats I'm experimenting with making myself, but it was still big. I wish I had returned it long ago, and wouldn't be at all surprised if they would take it back even today.
I'd be way too embarrassed to ask them to though.

It's not exactly what you're asking for but I've got a friend who looks pretty cool in his Sunbody Hats Guatemala palm bowler. It's not light and airy like some palm or straw hats, but it does seem pretty durable like a bowler should be

I have not looked at Sunbodies in a while. I'll check them out.

Does anyone know if there are any Hatter’s in The Philadelphia Pennsylvania area that actually block the hats themselves?

What are people's thoughts on cleaning products for their hats?

Saw the Bickmore foaming cleanser and the Bickmore guard product.
Also brushes (I've seen a brush with light hairs for light hats and dark hairs for dark hats).

But I assume for dust you'd only need to use some tape to lift it off the hat. So I'm wondering what each product is for and if it's recommended or used by anyone on here?

Many thanks!

This about as close as I can recall to your search. Nice stiff bowler crown, but no curl to the brim.

Thank you, Bama, I could wear one like that!

Thanks, Brent, I'll keep that in mind.

@Rmccamey , they're out there. Kind of like searching for Unicorns and hens teeth. Can't find my old pics but I owned this same hat. Ecuadorian Supernatural, one of the finest Panama's I've ever had. Style was not for me and moved it on.

If you buy your SunBody from @Mustang Mike’s Hats, Mike night be able to get you a special order hat with the exact shape you’re after.

I wonder who made the one for Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future pt. 3. Now that I know a thing or two about hats, looks like a nice wheat straw milan....
