If being authentic isn't the most critical thing, there is a clear tape that is just a gummy strip, with no paper or fabric. I found it used on a few cheap hats, and it's SO much better than hot glue. It can be removed completely from fabric, straw or felt by just rubbing back and forth until it balls up.
I searched the internet but didn't find the strips I saw on hats.
What I did find are called balloon dots. Apparently clowns that make balloon animals use them. I figured they'd be perfect for clowns that work on hats and ordered some! A lot!
They're like the tape I've seen, but are small, round, adhesive dots. They don't cost much at all, and won't harm your hats. Amazon and others sell them. I wish they were a little bigger, but they work.
If anyone knows about this stuff in strip form, please jump in.

Are hats with an underwelt brim (I think it's called that, where the edge is folded under itself and sewn) mainly done on cheaper wool hats to keep the structure and make it more rigid?

From what I've seen and gathered here, hat brims are either ribbon treated, raw edge or rarely overwelt and sometimes pencil curled but that's still a raw edge.

Just the underwelt for some reason seems to be done on cheaper hats mainly. I'm curious if there is anything to this observation

You didn't mention felted edges, which was an advancement over sewn overwelts or underwelts. The Cavanaugh Edge was revolutionary. Technically, it's a type of welt, but I was corrected once for calling Stetson's iteration a felted overwelt.
It isn't however a sewn welt, which can be added to a hat at the end, after flangeing and brim rounding. It involves actually working the fur fibers into one another with water (presumably soap) and pressure in the way that hat bodies are created. It happens early in the process, with blocking of crowns, so the brim size and shape is no longer optional, which raised the cost of hat production because a particular stock of partially constructed hats could no longer be shifted in different directions to meet immediate demand.
It was surprising, in a way, because it came at a time when hatmakers were otherwise already cutting costs in sweat leather quality, embossing, etc.

I was recently introduced to the brand.....
As a novice in felt textures.....I can not fully appreciate what I felt and was told....
But like wine tasting....you know when you taste some thing you like....
What I was shown....I liked but not sure whether it is a purchase I want to make.
Any perspectives are appreciated.

I’ve only owned one. It was a recent fur felt western and the felt was coarse and rough. The build quality was much either. A sample size of one isn’t much to go on, but I’m not interested in ever buying another.

That's the kind of thinking I like to see.
If you use the spring type, you can even twist them off and back on whenever you wish. But, they might ride out an earthquake (California Loungers), or you can just bobble them when you're bored. Imagine a room full of them dancing around!

The cheapest I've been able to find these is $1.68 each at Home Depot. At a minimum of 3 per hat, and a hat jack or band block, or even cutting something, oneself, from a block of wood, we're talking more expense than the plastic doohickeys sited by Bill Hughes, above, especially if we're talking lots of hats. But still a good idea, none the less.

It's probably a hat shop modification. Not entirely unheard of, this is sometimes referred to as the Hemphill Open Road, after the east Texas town.

Looks like an OR with a simple curl to me.
Max, does the reorder tag # match a # stamped on the inside sweat band? If it does then it is. Imho. What about block #? Can’t see it on the tag.
Also, is the sweatband stamping silver or gold? I recall the prev owner said silver?

I can’t imagine what dispute there could be beyond mere opinion. I think to assume someone somehow built that as a fake would be very improbable. It just got a nice little curl along the way.
