My understanding is that the black Urads leather cream is not color fast. The reason I ask is I have an old Vanson Enfield that is starting to look a light gray. My concern is that it will transfer the color to my very light tan leather seats in the car. Am I correct in my understanding about the Urads not staying on the jacket? Thanks everyone.

I have a similar question. On a black jacket that starts to go greyish and maybe needs a bit of a visual lift, has anybody used Motorcycle Pecards, ie regular Pecards with a bit of a black tint? Does it work?

I’ve spot-used Pecards black. No likey. Some transfer and when fully dry, back to original color. I much prefer obenhauf oil and/or Dr. Jackson conditioner & rejuvenator.

I do use the Pecards black on boots from time to time.

Hi Will,

I have used the antique Picards (conditions and lifts the colour) on my black Brooks and Picards then (after drying) the Urad with black added (gives a nice satin deeper colour lift) on the 654.

I should add, I have also Picard'd and then Urad'd+ my brown Brooks to great effect.

Are these jackets mostly pre-war or after? East coast or west coast?

Was this a mid range or premium range brand, back in the day.

The way they have quilted rayon lining looks very premium to me, like Monarch back in the day.

I find goatskin great for jackets and in fact a bit underrated.

Good-quality goat is very resistant to tears and scratches. It's thinner, softer and more flexible compared, for example to cowhide, but at the same time more abrasion-resistant. This is due to high tensile strength of goatskin.

I couldn’t agree more. Goat is definitely underrated on this forum compared to horsehide.
Super hard wearing, flexible and nice pebbled and varied grain. It’s my favourite jacket leather.

This label is not pre-war. East/West? some ideas below on the label.

Very heavy, high quality horsehide on the only Alden I've owned.

The HH label looks like what Star Sportswear uses on some Sportclad.

Yes, it does. This jacket is a copy of the Classic Windward with a different back configuration. Very heavy, high quality horsehide.

Thanks. Trying to pick up my first vintage jacket. Just try to be diligent and do some homework.

Do you sometimes get pull up goat? A E.g. an oiled/waxed hide without the plastic coating you see on goat leather from companies like Aero.

What style jacket? Size? I’ll keep an eye out.

Thanks guys. This is the one I was looking at, from Etsy seller OverAttireVintage from California.
I was looking for an early leathertog type jacket without the side gussets.

I am guessing Aldencrest is a retail shop in Alden NY. To me that made the most sense to have a luxury men's clothing shop in NY called Alden's Crest aka Aldencrest, back about 100 years ago. The lining on this jacket looks as if were premium product at the time. The only things that raised red flags were the stitching and shoulder construction. But if this was made late 30s/early 40s then it would make sense since the war would have had priority over all resources available.

I think I will do this. Gotta start somewhere.
