Has anyone applied leather conditioner to naked cowhide? Grail from schott used to say not to, as this would clog the pores.

However my naked cowhide jackets have no water resistance, so I am babying them a lot more than I usually would

I used Obenaufs on my vegetable tanned naked cowhide Field Leathers. It soaked it up easily.

There's no need to baby any naked hide. Naked only means it doesn't have a topcoat. All Thedi jackets are naked in that sense.

I personally love the stuff. It's the one product (and there are many like Obenauf, Pecards, etc.) that doesn't leave big residue along seams etc. and if you use it right, it "disappears" into the jacket....

please look at all the great information about the the CORRECT types of conditioners to use that do not clog leather pores Available by searching here on TFL….there are many!

Sorry, conditioner wasn’t the right word from me. Is there anything I can do to waterproof?

I don't know what clogging pores is about. What about leather with a heavy topcoat? That must totally seal the pores yet I've never heard anyone complain about that.

Once again, just quoting the late Gail:

This is completely irrelevant to your question. There are some things that clog the leather's ability to breathe and "kill" it if you slather it on...this from Leather Honey...."When leather gets wet or rain-damaged, the moisture forms a bond with the oils present in the leather. Once the water dries out, it usually draws the oils out, thus leaving the leather brittle and dry. Water can also remove some of the dyes present in the leather, leaving splotches or spots on the surface. Leather Honey Leather Conditioner is water resistant and controls mildew. However, we do not recommend waterproofing your leather, as products that are waterproof seal the leather's pores and cause the leather to dry out. A waterproofer will also prevent you from conditioning in the future."

The more wax you add....the worse it gets....

Might have to scour the bay for some actual 70’s shirts. These j crews don’t have the sand to pull it off. I can’t decide if it’s cool or just plain dumb looking.

You need the larger shirt collar to match, otherwise it looks incongruous.

You need a shirt with a 70s collar.
The fact that Charles Bronson's jacket is a cafe racer probably helps too.

Yeah, the 70s shirts are great! I have ones from JC Penney (Big Mac) that sport perfect collars. I find they balance out my fat head. I like J Crew shirts, and have a few but the collars could be more substantial… don't get me going on those “fashionable” tiny collared ones at Ross. Thank the Lord Reyn Spooner has some shape when worn un-buttoned.

Larger collar…and a pipe. I’ve got a vintage custom pipe from Eastern Europe. Made in the shape of a bulldog. It would complete the outfit.
