My husband does my color. He gets very offended if I think about going else where or allowing someone else to do it. He started doing it when I had only a few inches of hair, I always get great compliments...one time I went to a salon for cut and the entire staff raved about my color. I told them who did it and they just assumed he was a colorist. We messed up one time, we went dark brown and it took nearly black. I had to wait months for it to lighten then spent 5 hours getting back to blonde at a salon. We won't make such a big change at home again!

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I went into Sally's today and they said they don't sell Lottabody!:(

Where do you UK ladies buy yours from, I'm a little confused as there seem to be several different versions of this available to.

When I looked on Ebay the shipping costs from the USA were outrageous!!!

Can any of you lovely ladies recommend a UK source for this?

I buy my lottabody at a flea market booth where she sells loads of neat hair products. And it's not even a knock off ;P

right, you need to go into a shop specialising in afro hair products - so go to an area of London with a reasonable sized black community. I live near Dalston so go there... I get the purple stuff in the clear plastic bottle. Its OK but I'd like to find something easier to comb out...

Right that's fab, I'm just at the bottom of Hackney so that's a short bus ride for me. I'm off to get some asap.

Thanks very much, that'll save me the eight pounds shipping charge!!

How have you found using it, I'm a bit worried about it going flaky or looking dull?

it seems to be fairly conditioning actually but it really does dry crispy, so crispy it crackles when you brush it, but it worksand doesn't flake or look dull, even on my overbleached barnet

Sounds great, I'm definitely gonna try it. My hair is a nightmare of frizz at the best of times so I'm game for anything that might tame it a little lol
Have you found it best to dilute it or not?

definitely dilute it, I started at 4 parts water to one part lottabody but find closer to 50:50 is better, if I used i neat I fear my hair would snap...

have fun!

I really don't have any crispiness when I use my setting lotion...my hair is always soft and curly. Maybe I've been doing something wrong all this time...but I like how it turns out so I won't change it.

I have no idea. I basically squirt some into a spray bottle, then fill it up with water until I like the way it looks and then spray it on my hair and if the hair feels slimy enough, I know it's right. Too much and I put more water, too little...more lottabody. Pretty scientific, I know.

See, it really could be that I'm doing it all wrong :p

I can try but I don't really know how...maybe we use different versions of lottabody, but when I look at my front curls which are outside of my sleeping thingy they almost look greasy until I brush them and they turn nice.

Most people on here seem to report them feeling crispy and flaky. I can't be too upset though...I mean it's not that bad a problem to be different in this case!

Mine looks pretty much the same only no Revlon on the side.

I simply had to post this picture in this thread just to demonstrate what a wonderful mess one's hair is before it is properly brushed out. Here, it is just brushed a little:

So don't lose hope if your hair looks like an 80's nightmare when you do pin curls, you just need to keep brushing and brushing. Don't worry, the curl's won't go out that easily.

Laura your pin-curl tutorial pics are so helpful, thank you for posting those.

I just had my hair cut shorter today as I want to start to try some styles more like this and move away from always having an updo. It's still about shoulder length but I figure it'll be easier to hold a curl or wave the less of it there is :) ...... we shall see.......!

What I want to know is how you know that you have brushed it enough. So say for example you are at the stage you are at in the photo posted above, do you just keep brushing and trying to kind of train the hair where you want it to end up. How do you know when to stop without taking all of the curl out.

I'm a complete setting lotion novice here...

BTW thanks so much Smuts I just got back from "Afro World" in Dalston with a huge bottle of Lottabody, a big box of end papers and two sets of bendy rollers all for under £10!!! Thanks so much for the advice.
