Ordered a second VS from Art. I asked Art for a Bogart Sam Spade type hat as I was very impressed with fellow lounger Kaosharper 1 and his "Dingus" hat.

Enjoy! It's one of my favorites. I'm waiting now for a midnight blue version of the "Stendahl." The black cherry version is very versatile but I wanted something that wasn't quite as flashy. Art says its on its way.

New midnight blue "Stendahl" has arrived. The black cherry version is in my avatar. This hat is copied from a picture of an LA art dealer from the late 20s or early 30s and was often worn by the artsy, bohemian crowd. It's basically like a cowboy hat with a floppy brim. I've found it to be very versatile and can be worn formally or informally. No one yells "Indy" when I wear it either. It suits my broad face as well. It's the first time I've had two hats in the same style but different colors. I thought the midnight would be a little less flashy than the black cherry. Thanks, Art, for nailing it again.

A very fine looking hat! I'm thinking about both cherry and blue. I really like that style!

Thanks for the kind words, gents. Hatband, I'll see if I can get some ribbon shots for you tomorrow. That's one place where Art put in some variety.

Kaosharper1 Great hat. Midnight Blue looks electric. Shot of liner and ribbon detail? I'm sure you will wear it well.

Hi

I love the shape and style. I'm not sure that the color would work for me. PERSONALLY, Navy is a more formal color than say Pecan...

Exactly! I wanted a more formal version of this hat. While the black cherry looked good with a suit it was a little forward for many people, so I thought a darker version would look less flamboyant. Midnight was good because its a little more fun than black but still formal.

Nik, Kao - Great new hats, guys.

Nik, I've never been a brown hat person, but your Chocolate VS looks fabulous. The ribbon contrasts nicely with the body colour.

Kao, I liked the Black Cherry version of your hat and the dark blue is a great alternative.

I like the idea of having the same hat in different colours - I did the same with Indiana Jones CS hats, one in Black Cherry (Penman), one in Granite (Delk).

Now if the temperature would ever get to the point I can wear my felt hats, I'd be rather happy.

I know. I have this great new hat (which I ordered to take advantage of Art's discount) but it's probably going to be 4 or 5 months before I can wear it.

Thanks, David. I'm not really a brown hat person myself, having blue eyes. There are a few rather unexpected combinations to wear dark brown hats with non-brown suits that work splendidly. My favorite is the combination with my dark navy flannel with chalkstripes, and also with the light grey flannel.

I asked Art for a ribbon that would deviate from the tone-in-tone look, but still be compatible with the sober combinations just mentioned.

I've never really had a problem with wearing my felts in the summer and I live in central Louisiana where the average temperatures are in the mid to high 90s with high humidity.
