Just got news from Art he's working on my new (Christmas) hat right now - an artlite black cherry fedora. Can't wait to post pics!

@ Che - wow, nice hat! Great color combination and I'm really liking the ribbon work!

The color is pecan. It is beaver fur felt. The color of the binding and the ribbon are real close but not exact. But it looks good to me! The brim is a little short of 2-1/2inches. Open crown is about 5-1/2 inches. The ribbon is 2-1/2 inches. I love the center stripe and since I am an Auburn University graduate, I call it burnt orange.

The orange tie is close. The hat body is "browner" than the picture. You pobably ougt to search for "Pecan" to find more pictures. Mine is way off.

My first VS!

Hi Gents,

I've had this hat for a while, but was only just now able to get it posted. This is my first hat from Art, and it was a very special project. It had to be perfect, so I asked a lot of questions and made sure everything was "just so." Art is a true gentleman and craftsman, possessing infinite patience and outstanding character. Art, I tip my hat to you. Thank you.

On to the creation! I asked Art to build me a special hat: A re-creation of the hat worn by this gentleman:

This man is my Grandfather, who I never knew much, as he passed on in 1990 from cancer. However, I always had a hunch that he would have been a man to wear hats, and dug and dug through the photographic record until I found one. I queried my Grandmother on the colour, and she said that his hats were always "blueish-grey."
Art took my reference photos, my Grandfather's photos, and "blueish-grey" and came up with this:

I'd like to thank Art again for being such a sport and for producing such a magnificent project. It is a nice thing to have, and gives me a connection to someone who was a big role model for me, even though I never got much chance to know him.

Thus, I present, the "Theodore"

Not your typical VS fedora work but I wanted a durable old west Boss of the Plains out of the nutria blend bodies that Art has.
I went with the early dimensions, crown 4" & brim 3 3/4" with a pencil curl.
Here are some shots of Art's typical masterful craftsmanship...

Very special addition. I am sure your grandmother will be very happy to see you wearing the hat.
