The steam will "re-activate" what shellac is in the crown, so as it cools it should hold the shape. These felts have some shellac but not near that of the Westerns you are used to.

Yes there are this one is my wife's that I use. works really good.
Steamer is one of those required items like a good hat brush when one starts wearing fur felt hats.
A like steam and everything is good again. Some hats need a steaming more often than others.
The steam softens the shelac as Dean said then you shape the hat and let it cool off and you are back in business.
You can use a teapot the portable steamer is just easier to use than holding your hat over a tea kettle on the stove.

To date, that has been my approach. I think that a Jiffy would be nice too.

Here are some pics of my VS, a Sammy D in blue smoke with a 2.5" brim. I was debating btwnthe blue smoke and pecan. Pecan may be nice but this blue smoke is beautiful. The wife even likes it. Sorry about the image quality.
