Are prices for Vintage Leather jackets getting a bit insane?

I too am curious about the selling price. I am not an expert on Buco Jackets and don't seek them out, but I have not seen another one in this stye for public sale. I think these are pretty scarce. I say at least $2200-$2500.

I'm also on the edge of my seat. Your estimate sounds about right but yeah, this one's very, very rare and the chances are, if someone has the money and wants one of these this just might be their only chance so I wouldn't be all too surprised if it goes up to $4000.

Would be wise for a manufacturer to get this one.

I'm not MC Jacket guy, but this style is pretty cool. It jumps out from the crowd of MC jackets. Not sure who else is doing this? maybe there is no demand. I'm not a buyer, but I do like it.

A few high money Leather Jackets sales come up, always interesting to see what money will come out. I don't know anything about the Buco market, if there is one. Are there other MC groups where people sell these Jackets or is it pretty much ebay or to a lesser extent etsy?

Buco's are very popular, especially in Japan where the whole craze originated. I'm not sure what was the trigger, probably Rin Tanaka and RMC though I don't know which happened first. Anyway, Real McCoy does (did?) this J-31 style and so did Freewheelers though they took some liberties with the design as they always do. I'm willing to bet this jacket will go to Japan. I don't know why they like this 50's biker look so much... It has long been caricaturized, becoming a parody of itself with a life of its own over there. I doubt many people ever dressed the way you see on RMC blog page or Rakuten or elsewhere.

Anyway, there are no groups that I know of. Maybe on VLJ dot com? It was mostly J-24 and J-100 that caught on with the general public anyway. Durable is another brand that can reach extremely high money but most people don't have a clue what it is. Bill Kelso did a really cool thing to release their own carbon copy of the Durable but I'm not sure how well is it selling.

There appear to be several eBay sellers who are simply listing jackets (and other clothing) available at stores in Japan, and marking up the prices. These sellers do not own or possess the jackets, and will only buy them if you pay their inflated prices. They are counting on uninformed buyers who are unable or unwilling to purchase the jackets directly from foreign retailers.

Currently these eBay sellers have a listing for "Vintage Cockpit"
Type G-1 jacket going for $6,800 or best offer.

The jacket looks like this one which I paid $60 at an antique shop.

Perhaps if I add "Vintage" Avirex jacket, I can sell it for $6000.

You could get a better made repro of that jacket for 2k from TRM. The silly thing about it is the Buco brand isn't even a house hold name or has any history behind it that people cherish (like levis for instance). Nobody knows the brand. I doubt it would go for that much if there weren't repros of the jacket that made the name buco popular with a niche crowd.

Albeit nice, there's nothing particularly special about those jacket and the originals always seem to be falling apart, whenever one pops up on the Bay. But they were just mass produced catalog order jackets. No Buco jacket can be compared to any 50's Cal Leathers CHP's but I guess the D-pocket made it stand out. I really love it, I can't say that I don't. That pocket is really cool but Schott was doing it even before Buco. Buco just added the action back and the chest pocket to the 1928 model (or Beck 333) that Schott was making. That jacket came out during the 40's if Schott is to be believed. The fact remains that they were making this particular jacket a good few years before Buco. . .

One hour remaining and nearly $2K. This is going to be interesting. Billions of Yen incoming.

Is Cal Leather still a really good company?

I don't know. I do know however that my friend was very satisfied with his two new Cal's. He discovered Cal by chance and began collecting their CHP's (but really anything that got listed) and piled up close to 30 jackets. Or more? In the mean time, he purchased two new jackets, CHP and their padded kaff racer, fully custom made and all. They turned out perfect from what I've seen and he said the quality (leather weight, stitching, etc.) remained the same.

However, the company seem to have some problems with communication. Another TFL member, Pawnieguy, tried to buy one but the company was slow to respond and after missing the deadline a few times, PG gave up on the order. I've contacted them about the jacket ID and they were relatively quick to respond and helped me out a great deal.

Cal was always in a different league than Buco and most other makers. Their jackets were almost $90 in the 50's if I remember well, which was nearly twice as much as the J-24. Nowadays, vtg Cal goes for $400-$500 tops...

So was I, actually! Figured it'd go up to $4000 but this was nearly $5K. Just wow... If only we could somehow see if it really went to Japan.

God knows what was the buyers highest bid. $10000?
