The fellow on the left, standing on the bottom step, looks like Thomas Dewey.

And, that does sort of look like Dan Andrews on the right.

I would disagree on Dewey. He had wavy hair and bushy eyebrows:

Don't know who Dan Andrews is, he didn't come up on google.

Is this a picture from a family member? Is so, I'm thinking the guys on the right and left with the circles around them may have been family members.

The guy at the right (who does indeed look like Dana Andrews) is his hand on a wire or something? There's a line going from his hand straight down, looks like a wire. My first guess is that this a public appearance, maybe for selling War Bonds? There's a look of consternation on all their faces. Are they waiting for something? And who are the two sort of ethnic looking guys with circles around their faces?
How much do you know about this shot? What is its provenance?
Vintage Betty! Where are you?
Most of the crowd are women. Maybe it's a factory of some sort? For some reason I'm thinking it's a war production plant in California.
This is all based on virtually nothing, of course.

I'm trying to identify it for a just-or-fun trivia contest in Minnesota. Our team thought the wire might be from a microphone. Other than that, we don't know much. Based on the American flag in the background, it was probably taken before 1950.

From the clothes, I'd pretty much guarantee it's exactly 1944 or 45.
I'm wondering iof the gray haired gentleman is Louis B Mayer, of MGM.
After looking at a number of pics of Louis B, I'm pretty sure it's not. Back to square one.
The blonde might be Andrews's wife, Mary Todd Andrews.

Yes, it goes to the microphone that the gentleman second from the right is holding. You can see the microphone just above the left shoulder of the guy on the far right.

Other than that, I have nothing. [huh]

the trivia contest is this weekend so we'll know by Sunday. There were some other guesses that the girl might be Virginia Mayo or Betty Grable. The guy on the right could also be Lon Chaney Jr. Any other guesses?

Hello,
I'm trying to find out as much information as I can on this picture. Does anyone recognize the picture at all or any of the people? I thought the guy on the right might be Dana Andrews.

The guy on the right is the actor Dana andrews.

The guy on the far left on the dais looks like the former Australian High Court judge, wartime Minister for Foreign/External Affairs, postwar Secretary General of of the UN, 1950s Leader of Her Majesty's loyal Opposition and later till 1961 Chief Justice of the NSW Supreme Court - Herbert Vere Evatt QC.

He was the guy that destroyed the Federal Australian Labor Party in the 1955 Labor Split and had 'a kangaroo loose in the top paddock' for most of his political career.

for those of you that are interested, the blond was Carole Lombard. Her plane crashed after this appearance.

WOW! that is absolutely amazing, I imagine those pictures must have been heavily retouched, because to my eye, that is not Dana Andrews and not in a million years I would have recognized Carole Lombard as the lady in that photo ... there you go

The resemblance is striking; besides you have to admit you have never seen these two in the same place at the same time:eusa_doh:
Nor are they in the subject photo

Carole Lombard died on January 16 1942. Her last appearance was in Indianapolis Indiana the day before at a war bond rally. Her mother accompanied her along with Otto Winkler, an MGM press agent. Here's a photo from that day.
lombard1942.jpg

According to the site I found this photo on, it was the first bond rally in the US. The governor of Indiana is to the left of Carole, and that's Will Hays (of the infamous Hays code) to her right.
So, no. Not Carole Lombard.
