I started my book today. It's about two teenagers infatuated with 60s culture. Watch out, it will be good
Wow, congrats!
That is great news, both the agent and the non fiction book. Accomplishments most definitely. You should be very pleased and proud! I hope the new job is good, and that health is all squared away.
Your sample at Amazon reads well, I hope it takes off. Very interesting subject!
I'm currently writing on the novel and listening to Glen Miller. Life is good on a Saturday night.
Yes indeed! And about time, too. This novel has given me fits, but I *think* I've got it figured out. For now anyway.
Last month I finished a mystery novel I'd originally started in 2009, then shifted to another project (which I completed), and then came back to the 2009 story. Simplified the plot, too. It wound up at ca. 75K words.
Putting it aside now -- I have to do some research to shore up some scenes -- and for a change of pace am working on a fantasy story mixed with mystery. It may wind up at novelette length, not because I'm wordy, but because the background to the story is essential to the mystery, and the background, I think, will be fascinating, especially to fantasy/SF fans.
Hullo, AmateisGal. I just bought and started your book, Nebraska POW Camps. Really nice work.
I understand your opening note about chronology and such...as in "how do you tell the story with so many places to start and parallels and POVs, and heaps of general info and little nuggets of specific." I say you chose well! It works and is a good read with very interesting info.
I hope you are very successful.
I've done my fair share. I've written numerous magazine articles for various publications over the years. I was a staffer for a WW2 magazine out of the UK until it folded a few years ago.
A while back, I wrote a horror novel (which is funny because I'm no fan of the genre) about an Army unit going into the field in the US and horrible things happen to them. It's based on a unit and people I served with, so it was actually easy to write as I imagined what would these people do in such a situation. I really need to go back and flesh it out a little more and submit the thing, but all the 'heavy lifting' was done some time ago.
But to honest, I've probably done more consulting with others for their creations that I have for my own. The one I'm proudest of is helping re-craft the narrative for a DC comics series about WW2, called, "SGT Rock and the Lost Battalion" which turned out really good.
It wasn't. Trust me. But I must admit it sounds cool to say it.I would LOVE to be a staffer at a WW2 magazine! That sounds like a dream job!
