I just nabbed this one off OFAS minutes ago, they described it as a Homburg, but it looks a little too Stingy to me to be a Homburg. Anyway, it had a "Buy it Now" price of $69, but I put a bid in on it & got it for $26 shipped. I'm hoping that the color is true to the picture, will let you know in a week or so when I get it. Here's the link. Borsalino

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention one thing....they also say the it comes from "Henry the Hatter in Detroit"

Is it feasible to stretch a 7 3/8 to a 71/2 (USA)? Please advise Loungers[huh] [huh]

It's possible but probably not advisable. Here's why, all the vintage borsalino's I've seen have the sweatbands sewn in with a top whip stitch which doesn't go all the way through the felt. So if you try to stretch it, you have a strong likely hood of pulling the stitches out through the felt.

If you do pull them out you are stuck, as most hatters don't even have a machine to do that type of stitch anymore. Art had one but he couldn't get it to work right, and was told by another hatter that they never did work very well. You would have to have the entire sweatband replaced.

I cant believe the prices that these hats are getting on Ebay. We had hundreds of these hats five years ago and had to sell them off to make room.
What a shame.

Steven, do you sell or do you know any place that sells Borsalino replacement lining and parts? Seeing these (in my opinion, crazy) prices I was thinking maybe I should invest in a little refurbishment for what seems like one of the most valuable piece of clothings I have.

WOW!!! Makes me feel good for my Borsalino which I got for 0,50 in a flea market. Although I'm not sure of the age, it seems to be a vintage one and it has this weird size tag of 5 1/4 even though it fits me perfectly and I'm a 7 1/4.
It's medium gray and in great condition. But for that price I couldn't pass it, even if it had a hole in the middle of the crown.:D

Showed up yesterday......

....and I'm a bit disappointed in it. As far as the color goes for sure. They said the color was going to be the same as the pix, that's mainly why I even bid on it because I thought the color was different & I liked it alot, well when I opened the box....what a let down.:( it was a very, very light gray, nothing like the pix at all, what a bummer. One good thing, the felt is extremely soft, softer than any other hat I own, even my Pocket Borso.

The other let down is a bad one. the description said the sweatband had a loose part in the front, that was (very small), so they said....but it was far from loose. When I tried the hat on, it was a bit snug, I pulled it tight & the sweat totally disintegrated on me, it wasn't loose at all.....it was totally dry rotted. Here's some pics.

Here's the hat, you can see in comparison, it's not the same color at all......

don't complain too loudly...a hat softer than my pocket Borsalino?? hmmm-I'd like one of those, please. Understand about the sweat, doesn't take the onus of responsible description from the seller, also the color-but all in all,
I think you kinda hit a solid triple at the price; If it happens to be a 7 1/4 or 7 3/8, I'd be glad to buy it from you- please PM me....thanks[huh]

Sorry guy, it's a 6 7/8, I'm not complaining too much (for that price indeed), more disappointed than anything. I'm just wondering what's involved with fixing this sweat? JT, you can chime in at any itme now. :D
