My great grandfather Stephen and his wife Alice in 1939 in Akron, Ohio.

He was born at the end of the Civil War and died 6 years before I was born.

It looks like my family never warmed up to the front pinch.
Russ, I hadn't noticed this before, but it looks to me like your great-grandparents are standing in front of an airship hanger. Was that just where they happened to be, or is there a story behind that location? I'd like to think they just arrived by airship from some exotic location....

Wow, they had some cool cars! I wonder why they went back to that spot to take the pics.

The one on the left is a '56 Chevrolet Nomad (Bel Air Station Wagon). I have no idea about the one on the right.

My grandfather, Harry Crippen, in 'Sailor Straw' with my uncle and father as boys in caps (They didn't know when they first came down to Florida that you just didn't dress the same way as you did in Detroit! The kids weren't too happy about it until they could start wearing overalls along with the local boys and begin avoiding getting beaten up at school.):

HarpPlayerGene...wonderful pictures :) ...but...ummmm...ahhh...I think the idea of the thread was to show ancestors in hats. Although that is Quite a side bow in the last picture.

;)

My great uncle, Briscoe Brown (in the boater hat), and several of his friends cooking out. Judging from how my great uncle looks (in comparison to other dated pictures), this photo must have been taken around 1915.

Thanks for that first part. I'm sure you're correct on the second point as this is in the "Hats" section, but I thought I saw a few prior that had a few hatless heads in 'em and thought I'd risk it. Life on the edge and all...

lol G

Awesome photo - thanks for sharing it. I don't know haw they managed it back then but even the candid shots often had the feel of Hollywood movie stills. Too cool. Now if you could just do a little Photoshop and put a hat on that guy in the bottom right for thread integrity's sake....

lol lol

This last photo is of my Mother's parents (so my other Grand father) He was a snazzy dresser and always took advantage of a occasion to dress up. The photo is dated 1949.
