Contrary to popular belief, the direction in which water flows down a drain is more dependent upon the shape of the drain, the shape of the basin/bathtub/toilet, the direction and method used for distribution of the water, etc., than which hemisphere of the Earth the event takes place in.

Though believers cite the Coriolis Effect as the true causation of the directionality of water flowing down any given drain, scientifically it is unsound. For those who don't know, the Coriolis Effect is, essentially, the effect of the Earth's rotation on moving objects. While this does effect certain weather-related phenomena such as hurricanes (which do, in fact, spin clockwise in the Southern hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere), it's effects on a body of water as small as the average bathtub are insignificant at best.

I can't believe I just checked[huh] .

Thinking about it though, as I'm down under, the water is flowing uphill.

From inside the drain it would be counter clockwise:eusa_doh:, no?

Another important factor is the direction of rotation of the tap (faucet). These are different down under!
