I wish I was disciplined enough to stop buying beater $20 hats and save up for this one. Love it!

I'd like to show you, a dress weight, Staple Rabbit, Winchester felt. This went to an old lounger, who don't come around here much anymore. Color is granite with truest of true, vintage grosgrain that I've sourced over the years.

Delightfull detail and craftsmanship. That is a grand fedora for a lucky wearer. Cheers for CRM and new owner.

Non-instagram users, a Web browser search using the hash tag, puts you at the portfolio. Type it like so. #alleykathatco

Bob thanks for the good words. It's not that many beater hats, to pass on, to end up with a build like this.

Discipline yes. However personal desires can overcome that. But the just "say no" attitude needs to come to the forefront of the mind, eBay is addicting. I spent way to much of my life looking for hats, till I finally said why am I doing this. But for me, it was like, I'd rather make one, than spend 400 plus dollars, as there some very crazy numbers, for vintage felt in bigger sizes. All my vintage hats, are pristine and I paid dearly for each one in 2008-2010. One Stratoliner, 1948 era, was minty. But the sweatband just out of the blue deteriorated. But it happens. I had a 500 dollar hat, but it isn't worth that anymore.

Saying this next regarding pricing, being that subject, has been being kicked around the block, and back, in the forum, and so some folks know where I'm at thought wise, in pricing.

That hat posted here, for example is $265.00. Priced like so, $235.00 base price, raw edge staple rabbit build. I now add 30.00 for a curl. A tight curl like that, it takes a good amount of time. Many hours on that curl, and it takes lots of finesse to make it happen, and for it to look that well.

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by. If you ever need the itch scratched, give me a shout. Thank you Bob!

I've been thinking the same thing. I do get enjoyment out of fixing up a hat that still has some life in it. But it would be nice to wear a top notch hat like that one.
Indeed, when one has desires to fix up and refurbish a hat, it serves a few good purposes, and it keeps your mind happy and in a good place, especially during the dark days of winter, it's all good when you engage your mind into a craft or hobby !

And thanks for the good note, on the build!
I appreciate that very much.

Cindy I do indeed hear you, on the "events" and will watch for the box. The weather has been super extream, windy and subzero, finally it is letting up a little. Good thing you did not send it last week, it might have blown clear to Jersey, and landed in Ant's yard!! The Western winds were unbelievable.
I still want to make a pair of Spade Soles, one day, if you happen across any of that information. Talk soon. Keep warm. Definitely touch base when you ship that Resistol.

Built off a #52 block, a 5-3/4" open crown build by AlleyKat. This handcrafted fedora is constructed with Winchester Dark Moss STAPLE RABBIT, the heads hat size is a 7-1/8 regular oval, sporting a 3 inch "snap brim" This is absolutely one of the finest staple rabbit hand pounced felts you'll encounter. The felt boned up tremendously well and finished super fine. Any questions just ask.

The hat screams vintage in appearance, and the 3" brim, it will shape and work just as expected, like the vintage big brim fedora of days gone by.

Using truest of true, old stock woven Edge Grosgrain, that I've sourced over the years.
Not vintage like, but the real McCoy.

Available for a modest $285.00 and is on my Etsy. ALLEYKATHAT

Base build on staple rabbit is: $235.00 raw edge; and I add a modest $50.00, for a very time consuming, hand stitched grosgrain edge treatment, bespoke.

I assure you, no disappointments if you squeeze the trigger on this fine handcrafted hat.

This anxiously awaited custom arrived a couple days ago (finally getting around to posting it up and taking a few pics) from Tim at Alley Kat Hat Co. Right out of the box to my head it fit like a glove, best fitting hat I have! Tim’s sheepskin sweatband (shown in natural and already showing some patina) felt subtle and superb (wore the hat most of the day today and it felt like the hat was not even on my head). For this build I chose staple rabbit that has a perfect stiffness and the pouncing on this hat is impressive. Tim is a great guy and easy to talk to and a pleasure to work with. He sends pics thru the process and includes you in any decision making to make sure you are satisfied with your 100% custom handmade hat. I would absolutely definitely order another and would urge anybody considering either their first custom or next custom to give Tim a try, you won’t be disappointed. Now for the specs:

Open Crown: 5 7/8”

Brim: 2 5/8” Snap Brim

Felt: Pecan Staple Rabbit

Ribbon: Brim (1/2”) and Crown Vintage “copper” (15/16”)

A few pics, they speak for themselves….
