One point concerning the 'Alexander dropped the ball' comments though: It's hard to imagine how good/flattering any of these jackets are without seeing them worn by someone.

I have to agree, the pics on the AL site aren't great, for a company that i presume will do most of its business from online orders, you would think they would have a "better" site to show their wares...

Damn!

I had pretty much decided that I was going to order a teamster in a few weeks but then I saw this from AL

I've never been a fan of perfectoesque jackets but i really something about this. Not sure how much use I'd get out of it compared to a teamster though. Maybe its the colour and a teamster in this colour would satisfy both cravings...for a while anyway.....decisions decisions...

Any constructive thoughts on it? (apart from get them both ;) )

To the gents that have bootleggers / perfectos etc, do you get much wear out of them?

IMo the chest zipper is backwards (but then again it is on the Bootlegger too!). The puller should be on the top when zipped shut.

It's an intriguing pattern, but I would personally never wear one. I had one similar 20 years ago and I just rarely found a good opportunity to wear it. I'd go with the Teamster.

The Shackleton is not a jerkin at all. It may be a good wiastcoat, but is too fitted and offers no back or shoulder protection like a proper jerkin. See Silvermans for a good WWII pocketless jerkin or Moss Leather for one with pockets, neither have collars. However, both of these manufacturers offer jerkins with collars, even the thought makes me cringe.

Does anyone know if Moss Leather makes these jerkins in a different color of leather? Perhaps a darker brown?

Perhaps just pointing out the obvious, but it seems like no one has mentioned a key difference between the Aero marine and the Himel Heron: the scalloped bottom on the Heron. Probably take it or leave it for many, but I quite like the scalloped cut on the Heron. Think it works really well with the 30s vibe and general curves of the jacket......

I assume you mean zipping downwards? To me, that the way it should be as I will not put anything in a pocket that zips the other way. I had a jacket as a kid the zipped open (downward) and I lost a pocket watch. But I get why it "looks" odd as most go the other way. To me, it's more practical.

Is it me or does the Aero Shackleton look like the jerkin that my old coal man use to wear. Rest his sou!
We had coal men too, but never saw one of those. I could see my Dad's Dad wearing one! I still am on the fence...I already feel old, so I don't know until I see some others wearing one.

I felt the same way for years about perfectoesque jackets, but I changed my mind after seeing a "local guitarist" wearing one a recent episode of Top Gear:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCptegOuCfM

I liked the simplicity of his jacket and the Bootlegger / Detroit seemed to be a fairly close match. I've had the jacket for about a month now. I still like the design, but I suspect that it will wind up like my Lewis Leather Universal Racer Mk 2 jacket (getting only occasional wear because the jacket, my mood, and destination all have to be in alignment). Neither is as versatile as my Highwayman (or a Teamster I suspect).
