Lore has it she had one for 'special nights in'
One point concerning the 'Alexander dropped the ball' comments though: It's hard to imagine how good/flattering any of these jackets are without seeing them worn by someone.

Damn!
I had pretty much decided that I was going to order a teamster in a few weeks but then I saw this from AL
I've never been a fan of perfectoesque jackets but i really something about this. Not sure how much use I'd get out of it compared to a teamster though. Maybe its the colour and a teamster in this colour would satisfy both cravings...for a while anyway.....decisions decisions...
Any constructive thoughts on it? (apart from get them both )
To the gents that have bootleggers / perfectos etc, do you get much wear out of them?
The Shackleton is not a jerkin at all. It may be a good wiastcoat, but is too fitted and offers no back or shoulder protection like a proper jerkin. See Silvermans for a good WWII pocketless jerkin or Moss Leather for one with pockets, neither have collars. However, both of these manufacturers offer jerkins with collars, even the thought makes me cringe.
I assume you mean zipping downwards? To me, that the way it should be as I will not put anything in a pocket that zips the other way. I had a jacket as a kid the zipped open (downward) and I lost a pocket watch. But I get why it "looks" odd as most go the other way. To me, it's more practical.IMo the chest zipper is backwards (but then again it is on the Bootlegger too!). The puller should be on the top when zipped shut.
We had coal men too, but never saw one of those. I could see my Dad's Dad wearing one! I still am on the fence...I already feel old, so I don't know until I see some others wearing one.Is it me or does the Aero Shackleton look like the jerkin that my old coal man use to wear. Rest his sou!
