So I took a trip out to Everything Australian today!

I had planned to do this before I even came to Melbourne but it became even more of an imperative because I’ve never even handled a Campdraft and none of the other three hat stores in the area have any in stock at the moment. That BGG is sure a nice hat, but I think I’m going to go for something widbrimmed on my next purchase!

It was great fun meeting Sam the owner and trying on his range of Akubras. He’s not a hat specialist but he’s super nice and knowledgeable and I left the warehouse with a big smile on my face. I will definitely bring my online Akubra business to him in the future!

Cheers,
Nathan

The R.M. Williams Akubra. Silverbelly. Unworn (although purchased as 'used'). Hand-flanged and bashed. Will have it professionally flanged soon. The hand is straight up 'Aussie' needing a bunch of steam and patience. Quite different feel from my CDBGG as the felt is more Winter weight. Here now a few pics...

Upon arrival, I opened and steamed the crown for a fresh start.

Nicely done on the bash. A 60 would fit just fine, when your tired of it just send it my way!;)

Thanks! Not to worry! I'll keep you in mind!! :) Didn't think it would fit properly as it's much closer fit than my CDBGG which is the same size but fits quite loosely. Go figure.

Use to live close to the David Morgan shop when David himself was still alive. I'd go in a couple times a year, pick through their Akubra 2nd's @ half price for myself or friends. It rains around there some. When I was working around the place in the rain, I'd generally call it quits for the day when my Akubra soaked through. Soft little fellows generally lasted sun up to sun down much to my dismay :).

I'd also buy eject hats just to cut the sweat bands out to sew into a Sunbody straw.

Not many commercial hats as good a value as an Akubra

Just took a big Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific trip. Got another couple Akubras. This is the first--apologies, I'll cross-post into other applicable threads too.

First one, Akubra Cattleman in Bran. I'm really loving this hat. Great fit, versatile, seems to have all the right dimensions. Got it at the Strand Hatter in Sydney, just before getting on a ship. Here they are steaming out the new hat and putting in a tighter pinch for me. Added a chin strap to it too, which ended up coming in handy at certain points of the trip.
