In the region i'm from you do still see plenty of campdrafts around on the older farmer types and the standard look is a low, very round telescopic crown.

It's the same with the squatter, you rarely see it pinched. It might be different in the cowtowns up north but in sheep and irrigation country the pork-pie prevails.

Nice hat BTW.

Still can't decide what this hat wants, so I may take a few days to bash it. Anyone have suggestions?

Check out the first post on this thread. I like the diamond bash Colby Jack put in his Campdraft. I like how he gave it the 'everyman' bash like Jimmy Stewart's Open Road in The FBI Story. It doesn't look like it was bashed using an ACME Deluxe Professional Bashing Machine. I prefer that treatment personally.

Great look Colby Jack!

Here's my attempt...

Have fun with it.

Thanks guys! I was considering a diamond, thanks mostly in part to Colby Jack's hat.

Elvisroe, I wondered if the telescopic crown was most common, as most of the shaped Campdraft, and Squatter stock photos I've seen had one.

Randy,
Campdrafts have a thread of their own with lots of photos to give you inspiration....

Thanks, gtdean, I had browsed through it a few days ago.:)

I was curious about possibly going the "traditional" Aussie style route, provided it wasn't a telescope. So I had as a backup in my mind, the diamond.

Unbeatable Akubras

My first trip to the roundup but definitely not my last.
Of all my hats my favourites are my Akubras and my Resistols* so I am going to put together a nice photo set of each to post to the appropriate threads.

*just to note that I have recently ordered first VS so there is a chance my favourites may take on a slightly different outlook lol

We get a little Romantic here in North America when a moutain man rides through town in a dented up stinky old hat. ;)

Some pictures of my Christmas gift, an Akubra Federation IV. It is also my first fur felt fedora, though I had a wool one and a Panama-style straw.

Resting while on a long hike in the hills... I did that today too.

This was when I got it on Christmas Day.

Hard to tell on my crummy monitor, but what color Fed is that, J.B.? Looks good on and off you. Frank.

Thanks you Frank, it's actually the Dark Brown color. I know in some pictures, it appears lighter or darker, but that's based on the lighting around. I use a cell phone to take pictures, so sorry about the quality...

Finally bashed the CD. I decided on a center dent for the time being. Sorry for the crummy photo! I'll get some better shots later, just wanted to let folks know what I did. [my Nikon D40 doesn't play well with incandescent lights]

This was one of the harder hats I've bashed, it kept wanting to get wonky and off centered while working on the front pinch. It's not 100% yet, still tweaking it, but mostly from here out will let the hat decide what it does.

Looks Good

I recently sold my Campdraft in Silverbelly, and I'm starting to wonder why. Such a cool hat. Your bash is very similar to what I had in mine. J.B. - looks good, I've got my Carbon Grey Fed IV on right now, very similar bash. I guess I'm a wide ribbon guy right now, and since I love bound brims, I'll either buy another Campdraft and have a wider ribbon put on it, or send my Fed to Major Moore or someone to put a bound brim on it. I've been really happy with all my Akubras. Best value I've found so far in a non-custom hat. Frank.

I think it looks great Randy. I favor the center dent on anything that looks ORish. :eusa_clap
