Akubra Overload

I just made my first purchase from David Morgan because they also put the Akubra Hampton on sale...I thought it might be a good idea to get what color I could (black) while it's still available...
And here 'tis:

Re-creased the crown to a Teardrop to accommodate my enormous cranium. The felt is stiffer than on my Cedar Brown Hampton, but it still took it's new shape easily. Nice hat if you like stingy brims.

What's the preferred method of storing Akubra hats with Safari style brims when not being worn?

I'm guessing upside down on their crowns like Fedora's. But do you just leave the brims as is??

Depends on the hat. My Coolabah is stiff as heck and it’s fine. My Cattleman has a Softer brim And if I don’t snap it up it goes wonky.

This may be old information at The Lounge, but it was new to me.

I followed a compelling Google image to a site/shop in Tennessee called hatWRKS. Lo and behold: a black Bushman. A color exclusive to this shop. They also offer the Bushman in Sand, another exclusive.

They are pricey this way. The hat cost is up about $90, and I'd be paying shipping that normally isn't there when I can drive to David Morgan. Plus there's cross-country shipping time to consider these days. But on the bright side, I see that they'll bash your open crown hat for the low-low price of $39. ;)

I might be hooked. I just love my Bushman hats.

The Bushman and the Kentucky Rancher are the two Akubras I keep looking at. I don’t care for the grommeted hole on the Bushman, but it’s the lower (for me) crown height that has held me back. David Morgan’s price of $140 seems very fair. However, I’m just not sure I see the value in a $225 Akubra.

I hear that loud and clear. If my search for a thunderstorm-proof black hat that I actually liked (my Fed IV isn't working out) hadn't been so frustrating, I wouldn't have even considered the price increase.

A black Bushman is not the black Campdraft that so many of us have been pining for, but I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on it. I once considered a Premier Strat in black, but I doubt that it would endure my region's standard precipitation. And that extra nudge of brim in the Bushman serves me well.

I like the Bushman more than the Campdraft. While the black Bushman is a lot for an Akubra, it’s still not unreasonable for a quality hat.

... This one's a bit snug for a 7 1/2. Interesting how my CDBGB was same size but fit more closer to 7 5/8...
My two moonstone Bushman hats are, without a doubt, the most snuggly-fitting hats in my small collection (all of which are the same size and brand).

And Wow! Your Bushman looks gorgeous! That's a classy bash you've got going there.

Thanks! I used no steam as the felt is much softer than my CDBGB. At least I'm not alone regarding the fit...

I'm thinking this kinda looks like a Campdraft. Anyone with greater knowledge can put me right? Thanks in advance!
The brim on that hat has no binding, and it looks a little narrow to me to be a Campdraft - maybe it was trimmed? The crown also appears a bit diminutive for a CD, but it might just be the bash that's throwing me off. The only marking on the sweat I see is the brand, which I find curious. The ribbon doesn't look like anything I've seen on any recent Akubras, but it is kind of a cool hat.

Good point about the unbound brim - that had escaped my notice!
It looks like the crown is quite severely telescoped so I think it could potentially be a fair bit taller when opened up. Hard to tell.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Had to pull trigger for an Akubra Bushman in Moonstone from David Morgan. This one's a bit snug for a 7 1/2. Interesting how my CDBGB was same size but fit more closer to 7 5/8. Oh well! This one is cool with a slight upward adjustment...

How snug is it? My experience has been that if a hat's a little snug and I can't stretch it into shape, I'll eventually stop wearing it. The hats I wear all the time are barely noticeable while I'm wearing them.
