I’m thinking about getting another Stylemaster. I’m intrigued by the Bluegrass Green. Does anyone have outdoor pictures of this color Stylemaster? I don’t want a Leprechaun green, the Bluegrass looks like a lighter grey with some hints of blue and green. Is this correct?

Steven

It's not a stylemaster but here is my bluegrass green Campdraft under sunlight.

Since we're on the subject of colors, does anyone have an outdoor photo of Akubra's Loden? I'm thinking of ordering a Stylemaster in this color, but the photo the website shows looks a lot like their Cedar Brown. I have a Loden Stetson and it's like a green/brown mix. Color me confused at this point.

MCrider this link might be some help to you. While it does not have pictures the description of loden is there.

I gifted my Tawny Fawn Fed IV because it just didn't suit me, and I decided another hat would be in order. David Morgan is doing curbside pickup for local purchases, and frankly, I needed some immediate gratification.

I was in luck. I called DM with my target being a Bushman in Moonstone. They had only one left in my size. While the salesman examined it, he discovered some inconsistency in regard to stiffness, or lack thereof, compared to other Bushmen. I explained that I wanted to give it a teardrop or soft diamond bash and snap the brim down in front for a nice, wide-brim fedora. A softer Bushman might do just fine. He was adamant that I check it out first, and dropped $30 off the price! All said and done the hat was just what I wanted. My other 2 Bushmen have a cattleman's crease, so I'm liking this a lot.

Very nice! The telescope looks good. I also like how you did your flange/brim curl.

Thanks! Knowing the vision I had for this hat, I gave the brim a tough inspection before I brought it home. The brim was very cooperative and I didn't need any steam/distilled water to get it the way I liked.

I may coax a friend to help me with proper pics at a later date so I can do a Bushman/Camp Draft duet for the Side-By-Side thread. I have one of each in moonstone with similar bashes now. I know this is my neurosis singing, but it bugs me that there is at least one site out there claiming that "The Akubra Campdraft Hat is also known in the USA as the Akubra Bushman (Open Crown) Hat."

I’ve come very close to ordering a moonstone Bushman several times. It’s a great hat, and I like how you have yours shaped.

Who is calling the Bushman a rebranded Campdraft? Crazy!

Thank you, sir. I'm learning from the best here at the Lounge.

That's language right off the Australiangear page for the Campdraft.

Akubra's can handle just about anything. But apparently they can't survive being run over by a riding lawnmower.

I was mowing the lawn and a wind gust blew my old beat up Acorn Fawn Stylemaster off my head and directly under the mower deck.

No photos out of respect for the Dead.

Time to shop for a new all around hat. I'm thinking about a cattleman.

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the Fawn color of the banjo Patterson and the Acorn Fawn color of the Stylemaster is?

Is the Banjo Patterson darker or lighter? Or is it just the same color?

I notice David Morgan put both the Sydney and Stylemaster on sale.
Might be a good time to support small business.
I just made my first purchase from David Morgan because they also put the Akubra Hampton on sale. I'd really rather Akubra made the hat in Navy Blue and almost pulled the trigger on one in Carbon Grey, but money's tight right now and rumor is Akubra is discontinuing the Hampton (can't imagine why :D) so I thought it might be a good idea to get what color I could (black) while it's still available for $30 less than everywhere else.

The ladies at Hats Direct sent me photos of the Fawn Banjo Patterson alongside different models of other Fawn hats.

That was exactly what I needed!! ♥️

Just placed an order with them for a Banjo Patterson.

FWIW. They suggested that I use courier service option because standard shipping is now 1-2 months duetdue the Covid 19 delays. Even with the added cost, it was $30 below any of the US dealer prices. ✌️

I've been playing around with crown shapes with my three Akubra Stylemasters. Here's what I developed:

The first is my Federation Navy hat:

Stylemasters usually have a very shallow indentation in their teardrop crown. I made the teardrop deeper and slightly wider to look more like a Stetson Whippet. The crown slope is the same:

The next two Stylemasters are my Loden and Carbon Grey hats, which I made into a 1940's inspired diamond bash with a bubble crown:

I lowered the front part on both hats to make the crown slope as level as I could:

There is still some crown taper, but it doesn't seem that it can be easily removed without lowering the crown further.

Cheers!

Just received my Banjo Patterson hat from Hats Direct.

Placed the order to be shipped via courier on May 18th, it arrived June 1st. Status from May 19 through May 30th stated it was waiting for departure from Australia. Saturday, it was listed as cleared customs in San Francisco.

The women at Hats Direct are awesome. All of the size 58's in inventory were under 58. They located a hat tagged as 59, but measured 58.3. It's a perfect fit with some foam strips right now. Once it shrinks & conforms, I'll remove the foam strips.

It's already been worn on a 5 mile hike this morning.

Best of all, my wife likes it.
